Why the Beta Opening Scene Cannot be Converted to Version 1.1
This article explains a glitch occuring in the PAL (European) version of Super Mario 64 DS (SM64DS) using Action Replay (AR). I will try to explain it to the best of my ability, but I am not sure if I will get everything exact. Enjoy reading!
I was recently asked to convert the PAL SM64DS AR code "Beta Opening Scene" to 1.1 (American Version of SM64DS). That code is the following-
021130CE 00000090
D2000000 00000000
I had already known that the code was the 1.1 equivalent of-
0210A4B4 00000090
D2000000 00000000
Which is a code that would replace a invisible object in front of the castle varying on what you would put as the value. In this case, the value was '90'. I thought that this would end up making the beta opening scene, like the PAL code, but I was very wrong. The code replaced the invisible object in front of the castle with the mist from the waterfall, or smoke as it is commonly called. This left one idea remaining, and that would be that the PAL version of this code causes a error with the PAL game, thus causing the beta opening scene. It won't work in the 1.1 version of the game because 1.1 apparently fixed the error, so the code worked normally. In all honesty, this is only half a beta opening scene. The code somehow activates the very beginning of the game to be what it was in the beta version, yet it also deletes the files. (Makes them look deleted, that is.) The beta opening scene and the error could have been removed in other version, causing this code to work. Currently, that is all I know about these things. I will continue to investigate, and if I find anything I will update this article.
