NintenDan's 11th Article
Well, it's been around a week since my holiday, so I've taken advantage of so much spare time by resting up and working on the DS Ultimate Game. Speaking of which, I'm also proud to announce that the DS Ultimate Game is finally finished! 5 Months of my effort have finally paid off, but now it's time to face the real challenge in creating someting; seeing if your target audience approves it. I'm thinking if my audience, which is the members at DS Ultimate, ignore the tiny flaws that are most likely in there and focus on the story and main goals it will be an enjoyable experience. This is the best game I've ever made, but that being said doesn't mean it's the best game on the web. If anything, it would be ranked as mediocre. It isn't bad, but it isn't real great. And I say that in a way that isn't modest. I'm absolutetly certain that there are glitches and bugs in there, and I've tried my hardest to bump them out. This game was purely made with the resources and knowledge I had.
Focusing on the Game and it's good points, I do believe that this game steps out of the traditional shootee platformer as it was originally intended to be. It's like fusing Mazza and that Mega Man fellow together, and chucking in a detailed story. Along with that comes the insane story written by the only one whould could match such sheer stupidity; myself. Most members agree I give a whole new meaning to the word insane, and some think that I'm probably closer to being "NintenDan Insane" rather than just plain old insane. Now, before I use the word insane any more, I think this gives the game a big advantage. At the most serious of times it can get pretty off-topic.
The bad things about the game? Well, I'd say the actual movement of the characters isn't the smoothest thing in the world, with the jumping and such being bumpy, and some of the Boss Battles becoming more of a struggle than just being hard. Only being able to shoot in two directions, left and right, can be a downer too. But it's probably these things that give it a sense of uniqueness from all other games.
The graphics aren't great, but they still retain some decent quality. In fact, they can look quite cute at times. The music is probably one of the best aspects that I adore about this game. And with the addition of a Sound Test at the end, I'm sure you'll grow a liking to some of the tunes featured.
The story is the last thing, and it is creative in my opinion, let alone the fact I created it. I gathered ideas from Super Paper Mario and yoinked out parts I wanted to translate in DS Ultimate's point of view, and other things. Count Bleck inspired the Hacker, and Turbspo originated from the character O' Chunks. Even a bit of Dimentio can be seen in both Hacker and Quack as the game nears its end. The story captivates, intrigues, and most of all encourages the player to "save DS Ultimate", and at some points you feel as if you're right in the action, fighting beside some of the players featured.
I know that this article focused on the game a bit, but at least it has given you an inside look of how I see the game and how I think it has turned out.
One piece of wisdom, as per usual, this time coming from my Grandpappy, Old Guy:
"Ya know, kid; Quarters would've run the world back in my days. But Quarters were scarce then, and you'd be lucky to find a Bottlecap if anything. Of course, bottles weren't even invented back then. Those were the days..."
