The DS 2 Design Debacle
The TS. The weird clamshell designs. Nintendo Gaming Helmets. It seems some sites and artistic wannabes have extremely unrealistic and albeit stupid ideas for what the future will hold for Nintendo's Gaming consoles. But to the point, here's why each of the designs I have spotted will likely NOT be Nintendo's next console:
Techeblog's DS 2 idea
Sorry, but Nintendo does NOT just release a new console with better technical specs and leave it at that, especially not in an age of innovation and the Gamecube kinda doing mediocre in sales for taking said approach. It looks nearly identical to the DS Lite, has seemingly the exact same features and I cannot notice much difference. Sorry.
Qj.net's Clamshell DS Design
This looks quite cool, but seems to be the exact same graphical power as the existing DS and have near enough the same features plus one analogue stick. And I don't know about you, but that console looks pretty awkward to use for a handheld system, let alone making me wonder where you put the stylus between uses...
The Ngc France DS 2 Image
You must be freaking kidding me. Same controls, bad design, same technical power and some darn well stupid button placement. Oh, and seriously, those lights look ridiculous.
Joystiq User Designs
Some seem ridiculous, some seem awkward to use, some seem awesome. A few most likely kill the rest of these in the article before now. But seriously, what's with the PSP and iPod look a likes these sites seem to think Nintendo will be making?
Gizmodo DS 2 Concept Design
Please no. It looks like a paper thin DS Lite with Wii type graphics. And again, why would Nintendo make a follow up console with just technical upgrades? Is everyone ignoring how Nintendo like to experiment with new ideas, both successfully (Wii, Nintendo DS) and not so (e-Reader, Virtual Boy, ROB)?
Yeah, that's my minor criticisms of said console mock ups, simply because so many seem to forget that a next console will either be the same with a new design, or an all new set of features, style and technical upgrades...
And the Rest?
I won't bother with a length critique, but I am going to nearly die of laughter at things like the Nintendo DS Triple Screen type things. Why would Nintendo add three, four or five screens to a console when the DS has two for a reason? Five way camera? And the Nintendo On? I have no real comment other than that it would be cool in maybe a few generations time for real virtual reality. Just let's hope the idiots who get injured thanks to the Wii remote don't get to try it...
