Official Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker Beta FAQ A guide to all items and levels normally reserved for beta testers. Updates: June 10th 2006- First edition of guide written Introduction Welcome to the official beta FAQ for the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker. Despite what official may seem to mean, this guide is not endorsed or licensed by Nintendo and is private property. The actual codes are not in the walkthrough, as it is more targeted at telling you how to best explore the usage of such cdes. Gaining the Codes Firstly, you must buy an Action Replay disc from any shop or retailer to be able to use these codes, as such areas and items were hidden in the game beyond the reach of those people playing the game normally. Next, get the codes from websites like http://arcentral.net Insert the codes into the Action Replay using the 'add new codes' selection on the list of codes for the game. If anthing says invalid, check the code to make sure it is entered correctly. And if not, and no message comes up, fix it before the save data gets badly corrupted. Using the codes with the game To use the codes with the game, first go to the menu where the list of codes are an check the box next to one item (beta) you want to use and one (level) beta you wish to use. Only use this number of beta codes at a time, otherwise numerous errors may actually occur. Other codes like moon jump can be enabled at the same time though. Entering the level Start the game and go to the file select screen. Now, click on a file, and if you using a UK version, hold L+Y when the file is loading to enter the beta area. If the area is a variant of Fire Mountain, be prepared to jump, otherwise you can lose health and fall. You can also drive the King f Red lions through the darkness at this point, and forever. When ready to enter the area, just keep falling. Beta Level guide Ghost Ship (1 and 2) In this area, you are in a different variant of the Ghost Ship you explore for a Triforce Chart. Go straight into the room, and you should see some skulls and two red bubbles (floating skull with flames around) flying around the room. At this point, use the bow and arrow and shoot the red bubbles. Also shoot each skull, and when it makes a different sounds than normal, you know you've hit a blue bubbles in disguise! Drop down, and two stalfos will appear. Defeat them like normal and use the moon jump code to reach the chest. Inside the chest, is a triforce chart you can keep (same as what you would get in the normal version of the ship) Differences between normal ship and beta version There is no scene of the ship vanishing when you get the chart. There is also more rooms, like those you would normally find in the pirate ship than the Ghost Ship. Exiting the ship will take you to Great Fish Isle. Finally, if you find the triforce piece again, it will be named Nayrus pearl or something and possibly crash the game. Fire Mountain This area is by default a beta version of the inside of Fire Mountain. There is a layout similar to the map below, with keese and platforms: ______ | | ___|-Step-|___ | P | | P | | P | ----- ------- |B-| _____|B-|_____ | | | Start Key | | P- platform -------------- Step- set of stairs start- Entry and exit point B- Barrier Possible Variations This area is different to the rest because of the variants to the place. Following the same basic logic, any kind of area and exit can be introduced to this area, and I will cover these below, with altered maps. WaterExit This version is like the normal beta interior, but is flooded. A map is below, but here are some extra details. There is no other exit as there is just a wall at the other end of the vast area. You can now swim through the whole place, and instead of going into a purple light to exit, you just swim into that room to end up at the Islet of Steel. ______ | | ___|-wall-|___ | | | water | | | ----- ------- | | _____|EX|_____ | | | Start Key | | EX- Exit barrier -------------- Water- flooded room Gargoyle Exit This is also the same as the normal beta rea to an exit, but gloomier and emptier. Textures seem to be dark and drab, and there is a lone Moblin statue on one of the walls in the pit which fires lasers. Forest Exit ______ | | ___|-wall-|___ | | | grass | | | ----- ------- |T | _____|T |_____ | | | Start | Key | | T- Trees line the entrance corridor -------------- grass- Grassy field with green chuchus This area is also different, and more based on a forest, or the Pawprint Island main cave that Fire Mountain. There is a tree lined entry passage from where you start, and this leads into a large room. There is huge amounts of grass here, enough for a large field, and about 10 chuchus appear to attack you. Wind This version has a powerful gale blowing through the entrance tunnel, and a basic sandy arena. I have found that wind makes a glitch possible (check the Important Glitches section) Sand themed 1 This area is like the Wind Version, except there is no gale plus some other things. First, there are two piles of blocks in the large pit of sand in the middle, and some rocks placed around the area. In the middle is the best lone pot in the game, with 50 rupees in it whenever you break the pot! Great way to make money this is. Enemy arena On AR Central, this was labelled as green chuchus, but there must have been a big mistake, as I ended up here. There's the normal entry room and back wall, but there are also two untextured pillars, a chest, torches and Bokoblins in the room. So when you kill them, two more appear. Then two kangarocs appear carrying in a couple of Moblins. Plus, because you're in a cave, they cannot escape and attack you as well! Exiting freezes the game. ________ ____|-wall-|______ | | | P P | | | | | | EX B B Ch| |__________________| | | |________Start_____| Key P- Pilar B- Bokoblin Ex- Light beam Ch- Chest (open) Beta Fire Mountain Exterior This area is like the one above, but for the outside of Fire Mountain. There is no entrance to the interior, so no exit, but there are some odd water textures and some very nice checkered pattern rocks. If you swim off the edge, you can run around on the darkness which would normally kill you in other areas. Beta Outset Island This is the exact demo that Shigeru Miyamoto played at E3 to demonstate the Legend of Zelda, the Wind Waker. The area is quite a lot different to the current version, especially the black sky with no cloud. The doors are different, and they are on the side of some houses, like Orcas. The pirates are also standing on the beach next to their ship. There are also wooden barricades blocking the mountain paths. On board the pirate ship, it is also beta. There is a switch, which opens then closes the gate over the other side of the room, and can trap you inside because it does stay open when you reach the chest. This is the layout given: _______ | | | C | ---D--- | | | | | S| ---- ------- | S | I forgot the platfrom layout, but the key is: S- Switch S (2)- stairs D- Gate C- Chest (open) Exiting the pirate ship makes you fall into the sea at Windfall Island. Knuckles Art Studio This area is a small art studio beta area which was supposed to be part of the interior of Tingle Island. The walls are covered with paintings and random art work, and there is a painting cavas in the room. There is also a bench and a pillar which kills Link. Exiting takes you to Tingle Island. __________ | TBLE P| | | |C | | | | | |___X_____| Key: P- Pillar C- Cavas TBLE- Table X- door leading to Tingle Island Basic Room This is just a blank stone room normally, but if used with various codes, can be filled with any enemy in the game, plus a few odd ones. And also supposedly changed into a beta version of a room in the Earth Temple. ___ | | --- On a basic level, that is all the room looks like. Phantom Ganon (unbeatable) Ok, there is the boss music for the first Phantom Ganon fight in this room, and it randomly attacks you. But this version is impossible to beat, and I;m not joking. I've tried every kind of arrow (even light) to no effect. Tried the hookshot, grappling hook and hammer. No effect there. I have literally tried every combo to no effect. And the reason why has just been found. If you use the Hero's Charm against him, his health will show. But every time you knock him down and attack, the health lowers, but then when he teleports, it refills! So the only way to kill him is to somehow maul him when he's on the ground once. Wizrobe Summoner OK, this wizrobe is just a basic summoning one, who's powers are even more limited to usual. In fact, after testing I found that he can only summon: Keese 2 Magtails keese and two magtails That's it. And only one of the three before he shoots fire at you. Ganondorf This is odd, but I've been doing research on this combo. Firstly, whenever you aren't near him, the final battle music plays. And when you are near, it changes to enemy near music. Your attacks mainly cannot harm him. His HP cannot be viewed, so I assume he's invincible. But shooting him with a light arrow can actually stun him for you to attack, as can using the parry strike. Oh, and a normal arrow actually does the same as a light arrow to him! I also noticed he always walks like through water. Alpha White House This place I hard is an alpha level, or an early testing area. This is known as there are no textures, and each surface is just a block of colour. There is just a white house, in a lake, in an island surrounded by shallow sea water. Going up the steps here actually kill Link, but you can there using the moon jump code and Deku Leaf. the sea is also so shallow you can walk for miles. Beta Dungeon 1 This dungeon is a set of rooms like the ones in Overlook Island, where you get a triforce chart. You can also get a chart from here, and in the same way. First, there is a start room with the exit, and the door leads to a large room with crates. On top of the crates are rupees, and hookshot targets. There are four enemy rooms, and two have Armos inside. The other two have Armos Knights inside. There is also a big room with a chest with the chart in. Beta Dungeon 2 This is another beta fight dungeon, and this time there is no exit. There are also doors, accessed by hitting switches with the skull hammer, and rooms behind most doors have just a single Bokoblin. There is also an empty treasure room with a chest inside. ______ | | | C | | | --D--- ------ ------ | | ss ss| | | B D ss ssD B | | | | | ------ ------ | | ------ ------ | 2 | | |1 | B D 1 2 B| | | | | ------ ------ |--D----| | | | | ------- Key: B- Bokoblin S- Switch 1- Switch opening door to room 1 2- switch opening door to room 2 D- Door C- Chest Oh, there are also random patterns of switches opening doors up north end, and that whole area is blocked off by a wall until you kill the Bokoblins in the two sourthern rooms. The Bokoblins also get more armoured, with the ones in the north rooms having sword and shield. Plus, this whole area is basically in total darkness. Stone Platfrom with bridge to nowhere This area is just that; a platform with a bridge to nothingness. There is absolutely nothing else there. A map is just: --- | | |B| | | --------------- | | | | | | | P | | | | | ---------------- Key: P- Platform B- Bridge That's it. Test Rooms 1- I'm not even going to try mapping out this vast area, but it has a whole lake in the test area with the King of Red Lions floating in the water! There is also a massive doored place with a heart piece in a chest, and many slopes where Link slides about randomly. There are also strong currents in the lake, and one of the walls is climbable. Entering a door freezes the game. There are also many other things here, like crawl space tunnels and grappling hook targets, but that would take up like half a megbyte of FAQ listing them! 2- Straight ahead there is a large pit. And across that is a wooden barricade you can smash through. There are swinging lights on ropes for you to use, and there are bomb plants growing on one of the walls. There's also two more barricades and a big pile of stone blocks to push around here. 3- This is a chest testing level, where treasure chest are tested. But don't be fooled, only 1 rupee is in each chest. You can also get here from another test level to boot. The chests from left to right are: 3 normal chests 2 invisible chests 1 spikey chest 1 valuable item chest 6 normal chests 1 spikey chest 1 valuable chest 1 normal chest And there's also a big knight statue and a triforce isignia which makes a chest appear. 4- This is a blank level which just has some pirates, a guy who makes Boko Baba magic potions, Orca and a single non-collectable knight's crest. 5- This is the first enemy testing room. There are some peahats, two stalfos, a red bubble, a blue bubble and some morths. Odd thing is, some morths are actually on the wall! 6- This is another interactive object testing level, with all the interactive objects you can imagine. These include: both types of beamos Boko Nuts on vines 3 types of wooden barrier kangaroc nests floating tree trunk platfroms launcher Boko Baba Pots pots with water in eye switches moving platforms crates of two kinds Switches Beta object! There are two birds which can land on Links head when he moves! treasure chest with key stone wall scales ladders bomb plants statue 2 boko nuts with 1 rupee in each 1 with 50 rupees in 1 with 10 rupees in laser force field 7- This is the people testing room. And there are many different people here like the two girls rescued from the Forsaken Fortress (while poor and rich), the three goron traders, the rich guy who likes skull necklaces, the poor guy who complained you smashed his vases when he was rich, the chief Rito and the teacher from Windfall Island. 8- I so hate this level, as there is a red bubble and worst of all, a redead, which is right in front of you! Bad memory of pressing R, forgetting I had the R to run code on and going into the redead causing screaming which scared the heck out of me! Still, this area has keese, magtails, armos knights, Bokoblins, morths, and even a boko baba! Still, I hate that redead... 9- This is another interactivity testing level and has the following stuff inside the area: flaming torches statues gust of wind Iron boot launcher fan iceberg plant stone head possible spinning top like beta object pots fairies sun symbol wall sand statue spin switch song enscribed wall coffins light beam sun statue bomb plants 10- This is yet another interactivity test room, with similar statues, pillars and some decorative rupees. 11- This has go to be the most packed test room for characters ever! There is every non-important person from Windfall island here, as well as the guys in the diving boat and a figurine of Links sister! Beta Items There are many beta items in the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker, and they include some of the strangest stuff ever. One is called the Wind Waker stone, and would replace the telescope while another is a bokoblin sword that you could keep! And a final one was a stalfos mace for your inventory. I will concentrate on the Water boots, as that is the item I can actually obtain and use. This is a piece of text in japanese saying water boots, which I feel may have been used to either swim longer or dive. Using it on a button makes Link jump like putting on some iron boots, while pressing A to click it gives you some text about the 'Heros New clothes'/ You can corrupt your game using these items! Pressing save when the code is active will permanently replace one item in your inventory with the beta item for which the code is used! This means you can use those items with the Action Replay codes off, and normally while playing! Tricks and Glitches Walk through solid objects glitch To do this, as you are coming out of a door, press R to run or use the moon jump to float. When you stop, you can walk through any scenery object including statues, walls, trees, fences and buildings! Note: You can not walk through enemies. Walk through walls 2- To do this, climb onto a ladder. Now press R and you should go up and forward through any wall to the outside of a level. Press A and then float with the Deku Leaf and moon jump to go anywhere in a level. Neat trick allows you to get anywhere in a room as long as there is a ladder. Walk through walls 3- Where wind is blowing across steps, hang on an edge of one. Press R to go right through the step and out of the area. Errors you may encounter: Action Replay loads with a red screen of code! Just turn the Gamecube off, then back on and hope for the best. Maybe clean the disc if necessay. Game Freezes May be an error with your version of the game. There's no fix. Or, try not having multiple test area codes on at once. Game file is corrupted Use the code to get the item overwritten by the beta item back. I'm stuck in a test area Turn on a code for a test area you can escape from then fall off the one you're on while holding the buttons to go there and be able to escape. Frequently Asked Questions: What's a beta area and what's an alpha area? A beta level is a level which was going to be part of the game or storyline, while an alpha area is one used for testing by game programmers. What's a test level? It's a level used for testing something like items, objects, camera angle, enemies/combat, chests, money. And these aren't supposed to be escaped from as they aren't meant to be in the finished game (but they often are simply hidden). Can an Action Replay damage my game? No. Not unless the code used is some kind of debug menu. Can errors occur? Yes, like the game freezing or crashing. But normally, errors happen to the Action Replay rather than the game. What happens if I try to save in a beta level? You either; freeze the game/crash the game Get stuck and need another code to escape End up at the island equivalent in the normal game Corrupt the file. List of codes to have activated to make Beta reas more fun: R to dash moon jump Infinite magic More than 3 bombs at time plus bombs don't explode on own Infinite health Super fast boat Copyright Notice: This document is ©cheatmaster30 2006.
