Here are some screenshots I took of the first few levels of Kyle's hack, as requested. I haven't finished the first world yet, so there aren't any screens of the castle, I'm afraid. Also, if anyone can tell me of a site that doesn't automatically generate thumbnails when you upload pictures, I'll rehost these so you don't have to click the links to see the full picture.

Behold, the Switch Palace! I can't get past this part for some reason...

The maze...which way to go? Oh and if you only have 47 seconds at that point...you may as well restart.

The Pit of Trials...I actually thought that this level was easy. Then I got stuck on that block up there. Something tells me I didn't go far enough after hopping off that last spring...

i thought its illegal to make ROM game hacks, i do have the game, and i do want to play...

Not if you own the original cartridge. Also, since his game can only be played with a patch, even if you don't own the game, the moment you apply the patch it is no longer illegal. If you have a clean ROM and do not own the game, then it is illegal. But I believe that the moment you do anything to change that ROM, it is no longer the original, and thus, legal. I'm 99% that that's the case, anyways.

im still not getting it, inless Nintendo says its legal...

Thank you, ninjablooper, for clearing that up.
But, once you apply the patch, it is no longer illegal, because it is no longer the original ROM. Am I correct in saying that?

Even if you own the game it is illegal. It is only legal if the game was never released in the US or UK (no one here lives in JP) and it is translated.

You're wrong and Zex is right. I've contacted Nintendo regarding this.
And Zex? Can you remove the Thwomp thing? It ruins the surprise. >=)

And I've beaten the maze with 27 seconds left before.

Anyone want to guess the reaction of Azura when he sees this level? Or ProtonJon? Heh, their shock will be a worthy moment in itself, and their face when they see the insane amount of Munchers will be even funnier.

Looks fun. Albeit rather confusing, which I guess is the point.

Coin blocks...>_>...this is from the first level, "Leading Off..."
ProtonJon will LOVE that part. Seriously. If his reaction to the invisible coin blocks in Furious Mario is a good example, I can see major frustration when he reaches even the first level...

Watch out for that Thwomp! It's a bit like the intro, but with nowhere to run...but look closely and you'll see the block that saves you.
Nice puzzle, albeit one done to death in Super Mario Flash custom levels (I know, because I've seen whole rows of this puzzle...)

Yay, one block jumps. And do you honestly mean that dreaded springboard jump? That has me kind of scared...

8:30 odd in this video to see ProtonJon's hilarious reaction to invisible coin blocks:

I finally beat the demo! "Death By Munchers" is nearly impossible without using a new combo I made up; that short hop in the readme makes you jump just a little too high. Make the key combo have Press A only, and then assign it any key you want. It helps a LOT.
Anyways, I took a few more screens of "Leap of Faith" and "Gimmick Castle" from the demo. Leap of Faith was a bit frustrating at times, not to mention the invisible coin blocks...but it was a fairly easy level minus the trial and error. Gimmick Castle was harder, for sure, but I really liked the variety in the scenery and puzzles. I think I finished it with about 22 seconds left...and there is one puzzle that I believe to be nearly impossible without save states, and it really doesn't have much of anything to do with skill...it's one of the last rooms, kyle, with a P-Switch. Know what I'm talking about?
Anyways, here are three screenshots I took in case anyone is interested (still thumbnails though, I'm afraid.)
http://s2.largeimagehost.com/TN/QthXtes/tn_Leap+of+Faith.JPG (http://s2.largeimagehost.com/img/untilted/QthXteh/Leap+of+Faith.JPG.html)
A leap of faith indeed! Just one of the examples of trial and error in this level...do I hit solid ground? You'll have to see for yourself!
http://s2.largeimagehost.com/TN/QthXtXQ/tn_Gimmick+Castle+2.JPG (http://s2.largeimagehost.com/img/untilted/QthXtXU/Gimmick+Castle+2.JPG.html)
Behold, Gimmick Castle! Hmm...Koopa Kid's sure have a strange taste in tile colors, huh?
http://s2.largeimagehost.com/TN/QthXtXF/tn_Demo+End.JPG (http://s2.largeimagehost.com/img/untilted/QthXtet/Demo+End.JPG.html)
The end of the demo.
After playing this demo through, I'd have to say I'm fairly impressed! Despite some rather annoying coin blocks in areas, it has a good balance of both entertainment and a test of your Mario prowess. I can't wait for this thing to be finished, and I'll also be interested in what reviewers will have to say. Nice work, guys.

Is that my Gimmick Castle in one screenshot? Looks sweet, although the background is a bit off for this level. Nice to see you even made it more difficult than I did... I'd love to see some of the later ones, I have this funny idea of Kyle making every level even more super difficult, which likely means more careful jumps, right?
Edit: Oh, and Kyle? What are you going to do with the end scenes when you reach the boss levels which aren't quite castle themed? Like Sherbet Land...

The background will be fixed. =/
And yes, I do try to make 'em more difficult. I'll see about Sherbet Land, Cheat. that's a LOOOONG way off. <_<

World 3's a long way off? I get the idea though. It's nice to see however you've not got ANY blatant level edits, which is far better than most R0M hacks I've seen.

Yeah. I'm trying to stay away from that.

I can tell. The only level I see in the slightest resembling the original is the switch palace, and that's because it needs a certain tile set or background for things like the switch to work properly. Great work Kyle on making the first R0M hack, or at least the first I'll ever see LPers like Azura and ProtonJon play that doesn't have a blatantly edited level 1 and a version of Iggy's Castle nearly identical to the original. Also, it's very nice to see a hack where each level has a specific gimmick or theme to it, which pretty much goes well. I.E, the Maze is a maze, The Pit of Trials is a set of trials, Death by Munchers seems... Muncher themed, Leap of Faith is around Leaps of Faith and Gimmick Castle is well... Gimmicky and random.
