http://www.dsultimate.net/photoplog/images/1/1_ThePyramidOfTraps.PNGUnbelievably, this is actually not a castle or fortress level, but a ghost house level. Yeah. Only two rooms with ghosts, and it's based on the pyramid levels where you fought Tryclyde in Super Mario Bros 2 (Doki Doki Panic version). It also uses a lot of the default sprites from Sprite Tool, a few custom blocks (sand to be dug through, key only blocks and quick sand) and very much has an Egyptian theme.

Albeit, a little big. <_<

To cut down the size, you can quite easily just cut the vertical areas in half height wise, which would probably make it small enough to not use up too much room.

Possible music?

Look under Super Mario Land 'Ruins'. I couldn't find the Super Mario Bros 2 music for the Pyramids though.

Mmm. Big. And there's plenty of empty space where new traps could be put in (worthy of notation is the top area with the crushing spikes.) But, let's take a look at the level itself.

Pyramid of Traps. The level isn't entirely linear, which is a good thing, but it could probably use a bit more...well, traps. Though there are certainly some in there. The big sand section looks neat, and it should be able to fit easily into one vertical level. Also, any idea as to what you want those message boxes to say?

Having to dig down into the pyramid and back up is a nice idea, since it means you'll be facing the enemies you saw before, though they'll be coming down on your head this time. Not to mention the Phantos.

The Big Boo Boss I'm not sure about. He's a little over-used, and while he meets the criteria for a boss in a Ghost House level, I think it would be cool to have some Egyptian style enemies as a boss, sort of like what you did in the plant castle. Aside from that, it looks like a good level. Granted, pyramids have been used in other Mario games before, but not in this one, so it'll do just fine.

I could indeed do with some more traps, but I'm not sure what kinds to ut down, I already used about two games worth of enemies, and it's not a castle, only a ghost house replacement.

One will say:

'Mario, be careful! We cannot detect any enemy base in the region, and hence we do not currently know the whereabouts of Bowser's troops on the island!'

This refers to the city/circus level I mentioned earlier, which cannot quite be found by the Toad army or whatever because it's not in a castle or that kind of building, so there's a sense of exploration in actually finding out what level houses the boss for players. And a lot of people will probably think this is the 'castle', I can guarantee it.

But yes, I guess I'll add more traps and such, like spikes and roto discs.

That's my favourite part.

Thanks for your comments. And yes, Big Boo is a bit overused, but it's gonna happen regardless. We've already got two Reznors, so that alternative is out, and one Mouser, so out goes him too. Plus, it's extremely hard to find any Egyptian themed Mario enemies that wouldn't require massive ASM (you'd need to be an expert to code that Sphinx guy from Mario Land or Tryclyde, and that clown from the casino/circus themed boss level is likely already at the end of most people's expertise.

Added a lot more traps and classic enemies:

Now with Chain Chomps, another Sledge Bro type which fires weights which bounce on the ground 4 times causing earthquakes, spikes (throw spiked balls at Mario), more general stuff and Baron Von Zeppelins from Yoshi's Island which drop spiked balls on Mario's head. Better now?

Thar we go! It looks much more Kaizo like now. More enemies + more traps = good.

I have one question; under one of the large spikes there are some coins that spell out "PTT." What is that supposed to stand for?

Oh, that's for fun. It's because Super Mario World Central hate trial and error, so to save complete 'morons' the effort of falling into a very deep spike pit, I actually put a little sign basically saying 'Death below'.

Of course it's sand traps of doom. It's an Egyptian themed pyramid, which comes under a DESERT level. And the difficulty is the whole idea, this is meant to be a difficult level in an already difficult ROM hack. Keep in mind people have save stats for these ROM hacks. And my levels are meant to be difficult, and the ROM hack in general, if it gets accepted at Super Mario World Central will by far be the most difficult hack on that site (they don't accept straight up Kaizo Mario type hacks).

Really? I never really knew how tough the hacks were on there. Perhaps DSU will make a name for itself in the SMW hacking world when all is said and done.

The hacks on Super Mario World Central are generally quite easy to beat, so I hear. There aren't any of massively high difficulty except I think Luigi's Adventure and the VIP series.
