Load the ROM to it and it should be easy from there to make levels at least.

1.) To customize your Overworld, go into Layer 2 8x8 Editing Mode. The second half of the Overworld screen should now display a bunch of tiles for you to use. If you don't see any, go to File and then Reload and Discard Unsaved Changes. Next, simply start selecting which tiles you wish to use for your scenery. You may want to delete everything currently on the overworld to do so. Even though the segments you see are large, you can take tiny bits of them to construct your overworld. Like, if you just want the edge of that piece of land, just click on the edge and use that tile. Or if you want the whole thing, click and drag your cursor to highlight the whole piece of land, and then paste (right-click.) Make anything you want...and to change Mario's start position, go into Sprite Editor Mode and just drag him onto a level tile.

2) I'm assuming you mean to create levels on the overworld. Doing so is very easy. Since you already know how to create Mario paths, go into the Layer 1 16x16 Editor Mode (not the event mode.) Then go into the 16x16 Overworld Tile Selector (it looks like a blue switch on the toolbar.) You'll see in the window that pops up that there is some empty space. To fix this, press "9" on your keyboard. This will display all paths and tiles on the overworlds and editors Mario can tread on. Most of them can easily be seen by the green highlight atop them; others will be blue, which means water, and red, which means Mario is climbing. Now, all of the tiles you see that have a green circle (and a few that don't, but still look like level tiles) can be used as a level tile. Choose the one you want and then put it into the overworld. Once you've pasted it, left-click on it and then go into "Modify Level Tile Settings." From here, you'll have a number of spaces to fill in with information; some are self-explanatory, but if you need help with any of them, let me know.

To edit messages, go into the "Edit Message Box Text" dialog, also on the Overworld toolbar. With the exception of the first two messages, each value there indicates which text you'll find the level in. You can have two texts per level; the text displayed in a level is determined by its X value in Lunar Magic. To edit the intro text, simply edit the first message shown.

Take note that Overworld changes will sometimes only occur if you start a new game.

I have no idea how to edit the overworld. Sorry.

Yeah, First of all... do you already have a level picked out for it??
If so, what you need to do is click on the ghost house without the X on it... when you do, You should see and option available that has a pic of a small yellow dot. Click on where you want the level and make sure you have a "Level Tile" Picked out for it... Click on the Level Tile and then the yellow dot option and from there you should assign it a Level number. Also make sure you draw a preset path to it;)

Wings is correct. By default, all levels go to level "0" unless specified otherwise. That includes all exit-enabled objects in Lunar Magic as well. Level zero leads to an endless bonus game.

Ummm... actually yes, I don't find the rest of Lunar magic level editing tool to be all that hard... but maybe that's just me>.>

Zexis

Most of it is fairly easy. Things like editing Map16 tiles are easy, but not something a newbie would pick up right away. Level modes also, like making a vertical level, are also something that well defined in that nifty help file. And a few of the Layer 2 objects can be a little tricky as well.

I wouldn't say there is anything hard in LM, unless you're trying to learn how to do everything without any help.

how do i change the name of levels? same thing as text editing?

mariowings77
20th November 2008, 12:13 AM
click on the red dot option in the overworld and change the name according to the level #

also... later on Zexis... could you teach me how to make verticle levels?

Phantom link

and of course.

create pipes and doors inside places that DON'T take me to the bonus game.

mariowings77
20th November 2008, 12:34 AM
I'm still not sure on pipes but as for doors what you need to do is first... there should be a little blue door option that divides the screen into little blue rectangles labled with different numbers...(00, 01, 02, and so on and so on.)
you place a door in one of those squares and ONLY One!!! (VERY IMPORTANT that you don't put more than one door per blue rectangle)
then on the same row of options, there should be a small door with two arrows. Click on that and imput where the door is(00, 01, 02 and so on and so on.)
then you put the number of the level you want it to go in and BOOM!! You've done it!! :D

Let me add to this a bit. Wings is right in saying that there can only be one exit-enabled object per screen. Pipes and doors are set up just the same; as long as you are having Mario (or Luigi) be sent to the beginning of another level, fill out the appropriate fields in the window he suggested. As long as there is only one exit-enabled object per screen (F1 will toggle the screens), it'll automatically detect the object you want. If you ever want to know how to make Mario exit to a different point in the same level he is currently in, or to a point that is not the primary entrace of another level (secondary entrances.)

Wings, to make a vertical level, make sure that you don't already have anything in the level you want that you want to keep, because switching the level design to vertical may delete all objects and sprites. Now, simply change the level mode until you come upon a vertical mode. There are several. I honestly don't know what the difference is between them; I prefer to use mode 8. Regardless, that's all you really have to do...let me know if you encounter any issues.

No problem. And there aren't any viruses in the R0Ms. There will only be a virus if you download a file that ISN'T a R0M. Go to Youtube. Some of the videos have links to genuine, clean R0Ms. Lunar Magic can be downloaded off of SMW Central.
