I just really want an interesting idea for a boss, but all the bosses I've seen have either been used to death (Big Boo and Reznor), are kind of dull (the leftover Koopalings such as Morton, Roy, Wendy, Larry) or don't quite fit the level for difficulty (the boss download sprites on Super Mario World Central, aka The Fishin' Boo boss, Classic Bowser, Birdo, Ground Pound Koopa, Mouser, Pelican Bro). Something kind of simple really, that goes with a hard as hell boss room and maybe because they're annoying, HOMING Bullet Bills.

Too bad we don't have an expert on ASM here...I think. Honestly though, I don't know.

I have an idea. Maybe not for this level, but some other. Like a battleship, or something. If I remember correctly, isn't there a sprite or block that ends the level when all enemies are destroyed? What if we made a level on a ship where the boss was a bunch of gunners and deckhands, and you had to defeat all of the gunners to win. The "guns" could be as simple as a bullet bill launcher, with an enemy hiding behind it. We could place them in different areas, and maybe you'd have to do some jumping off bullet bills are some other short puzzles to get to high up enemies...

Just a thought.

Luigi can't be a boss without ASM.

Hard to learn, that is, or so I've heard. Brutal Mario is a nice of example of why ASM can be good. Very good.

Even if we did, none of the original bosses in the Wario Land games for this level were much good either (it was in the days of the original Gameboy, remember? Technology for that console wasn't too great).

I was thinking about that, but I had trouble coming up with a design that said 'boss battle' rather than 'level', since the point of this thing is to be a boss equivalent, and too much 'level' would annoy people who've already had to walk freaking miles to get to the boss door (it's that really, really, really long castle, remember?)

That's a great example of ASM, but a rather poor example of level design. Bosses are fantastic, but the levels are like 'some guy's first level design in Lunar Magic plus some ASM gimmick'. Of course, they'd probably have an actual A rated game if they just removed the levels and just did a 30 level boss rush story (seriously, the boss battles are awesome).
