Online anonymity is a great thing, allowing you to talk to random people all around the world without having anyone knowing information about anyone. However, why does everyone dismiss the idea that anyone of any fame could be using a message board and seem to think that anyone with a slightly similar name is faking their identity?
A good example is the behaviour of forum goers when someone says while online playing Mario Kart DS or Metroid Prime Hunters that they faced NOA_[name here] or Ninten*[name here]. They instantly make accusations that it is some random kid making some cruel joke. But why? What proof is there, or that could ever be to say someone who claims to work for Nintendo is lying? How do you know that an actual staff member was not actually playing the game a few moments ago? Can you know?
The answer is no. However unlikely it may seem, the staff there could be using names like that and racing/battling random users. Another thing to think about is this; is some random person online famous/a Nintendo executive or what? Because of pseudoanonymity, they could be anyone on Earth. They could be an eight year old, someone of over 70 years of age or have any job, position, state of fame, anything.
In other words, what is there to say a famous person/Nintendo member of staff does not disconnect when losing? What is there to also say that they are for or against 'snaking', PRB, shortcuts? For all we know, they could be Action Replay using wannabe hackers who use parrallel hacking for an unfair advantage.
On another note, who is using a website? Who is using a forum or chat room? For all you know, any possible person that exists at the semi present time could be using the exact same message board/chat room/etc at the same time as you are. The random person who is asking about 'snaking' could be world famous for all you know. You could be sharing friend codes with anyone of any possible identity.
So why you consider that, do not dismiss the ideas altogether, do not making liar accusations and think about who you may be talking to before giving out any kind of information. Or saying anything which could be taken as offensive.
Now discuss.
