They have 2D, and 3D games. They now have SWEET graphics. What comes next? Discuss.

Virtual Reality. Could you imagine it? Driving in Mario Kart, Fighting SSB. So far the closest thing we have is the wii with motion sensor.

Yes, I remember an article in a Game Informer magazine about the theoretical virtual reality evolution in gaming. I mean, virtual reality has been around for a while. They use it for training in the military.

While I as a whole am not sure of what the next big thing will be, I will just say that there are a few things I pretty much know it will not be. First of all, I will tell you off the bat, it's not going to be virtual reality. Yes, I know that's nearly everyone's guess and speculation, but virtual reality has just never been viable in the past, and I, almost as a result, doubt the viability now. Yes, the Virtual Boy is one pretty good example of this, but there have been many others. I think there was something for these 3Dish interfaces in VRML sometime for the browser, but you can pretty much tell that's dead now.
But how far are we talking here? One year, two years, ten years, a hundred years down the line? For the foreseeable future, I'd say the motion sensing thing will probably become more common as companies try to imitate the Wii and it's success. Possibly after that some new technique might come in, although I honestly am at a loss to what's new under the sun for consoles at any current feasibility.

To comment on that, cheat, I'd like to say that I really hope motion sensing controls don't become required methods of control in future consoles. Why? Because, sometimes, I prefer just to have an old fashioned controller. I honestly think I do better with them, anyways.
I wouldn't mind if motion sensing was implemented in either Sony's or Microsoft's next console, so long as regular controllers with joysticks are still an option.

I know some people prefer standard controls, but there's no real need to worry, since it's pretty much incredibly implausible that the standard old joystick and buttons controls will go away completely. Remember that even Nintendo's big first party games usually have alternate control schemes utilising the control pad, and I'd say motion sensing will become a common option more than a requirement for all games per se.

I think advanced voice recognition will be in future games.

Devs are starting to catch on with the Wii. Back when the DS first came out a lot of games tried to force the touch controls, and they usually came out sloppy or frustratingly pointless. Now a lot of DS games come out where you don't ever need to touch the bottom screen, unless it is convenient. I see this happening with the Wii, now that the games with some seriously useless waggle are going down. In the beginning people treated the motion control like it was supposed to replace buttons, but in reality it is just to enhance your control over the game.

Couldn't put it better. Nowadays, you see more games that have multiple controller compatibilty and not just making you use the Wiimote. Games that restrict you to the Wiimote can often be very annoying, unless they make it work, like Super Mario Galaxy, and even then you could still use the Nunchuck.
