Anybody read a good intellectual book as of late? Let's discuss them. ;)
Right now, my English class is reading The Count of Monte Cristo. It's a book about a guy in France c. 1840 or so who was accused of treason falsely (specifically, being a follower of Napoleon Bonaparte, who was at the time exiled on the island of Elba) and imprisoned for 14 years. While in prison, he learns a whole lot about the world. When he finally gets out, he sets on a path for revenge against those who had accused him.
CMC is actually a book that I've elected to read on my own time rather than forced to read it to get a good grade. It's a good, worthwhile read.

I read College Rankings Exposed recently, you should try it. It's basically about how you shouldn't just look at the U.S. News Rankings to find the "best" college, but find a good college in terms of yourself. And here is something from it you may find funny-

So anyway, an applicant tried to get in to MIT, and was rejected, so the father wrote back a letter to the dean of admissions and said something like this-

"You rejected my son. He's heartbroken. See you in court."

I lol'd so many times at that... But then, the son sent a letter back saying-

"Thanks for rejecting me. It was the happiest day in my life."

I'm sure you can figure out what happened here...

Right now I'm reading Cut by Patricia McCormick. It's about a girl named Callie. She's droven into mental illness and starts cutting herself. She gets put in a psychiatric hospital with 2 anorexics, an extremely obese girl, 2 drug addicts and another cutter. She won't talk to anyone at all. She has to learn how to trust people again and to stop the cutting. It's an extremely good book. It gets deep into the mind of someoen who's mentally ill.

I read Ender's Game a few weeks ago. The school librarian suggested it to me, and it was great.

I'm reading it again for English and I'm going to do a book report on it.

Of Mice and Men. Very good book, BTW. Just don't look at the end of the book before you finish it (like I did).

I read that one. It's only ok. Right now I'm reading Stolen Voices. It's about a town that was saved from some war where music was the weapons. You have to have a Talent or becoem a slave. It's about this girl who is "Untalented"...untill she finds out a dark secret.

I like a lot of those "classic" books, i.e: all those ones you have to read for school. XD I enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird and 1984, very much.

My little brother, a 4th grader, was really into this book called Loser. I started reading it, and its actually a really good book. It's about this boy who can't do things as well as others, until he finally finds out what he's good at in the end. It talks about his life from Kindergarten to 6th Grade. Its for younger kids, so I recommend it for smaller kids.

Personally I find myself entangled in "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontė. It's really a very absorbing book, although many find the language to be of a complicated and feel rather distanced from the novel at first until it finally reels you in as you adjust to Brontė's style.

I recommend it.

Flatland. I completely forgot I read it, until about 10 minutes ago. XD It makes you think, like how A Wrinkle in Time does.

I tried reading A Wrinkle in Time, but it is not my kind of genre. (fantasy and all that) I like realistic fiction and documentaries. Speaking of documentaries, anyone read Chew On This? (I'm serious, it's really named Chew On This)

I usually don't like fantasy, but A Wrinkle in Time was superb. I would recommend reading the next three (four, if you count the fifth one, which I don't really see as part of the series that much), even though the first is still the best.

Yeah, I have all 5 and judging by the blurb, it's way different than the first.
