View Full Version : Games the Media Seem to Hate that you think Don't Deserve it?

As the topic says, are there any games you think are better than those in the mainstream that the mainstream gaming press just seem to have a grudge against and keep negative scores? Back your reasons and choices with intelligent points, and keep any actual bashing of said sites to a minimum, but feel free to go ahead and say your mind here.

For me, I'd say Donkey Kong Country, Wario Land and probably a few other games fit those for the platforming genre (probably quite a few of Rare's other series, although I'm not sure what the general press response is to the Banjo Kazooie and Conker series nowadays). For the former, I'd say I don't particularly like how the press seems to see the games as 'shallow' or the like, or 'dependant on graphics', especially as from what I've seen in articles and videos, it's about as 'shallow' as could be said for the Mario series, which has always got a positive reaction (and both are fun series of games). The latter I'd say always seems to lose out to the Mario series in terms of any reviews, even for things like graphics and music, in which in some cases the games may actually be better at, getting like, an 7 or 8 where the Mario series will get like a 9 minimum.

So, any games like this you know of? First Person Shooters games better than Halo that get hardly any of the overwhelming praise that gets? RPG games better than Final Fantasy with hardly any of the praise? Games that aren't as good as the best around but still get woefully average review scores thanks to big sites apparently being more interested in advertising revenue from big companies than a decent review?

I would say Zelda II. I'm not talking about the older reviews that praised it, I'm talking about now days how the youth has been brainwashed to hate it.

Ah, you mean the one with sidescrolling and RPG elements? I've never played that, so I'm curious how good it is exactly. They probably dislike it however purely based on it being different to the other Legend of Zelda games.

It is a very good game.

That game is great. Although I'm not sure why anyone should hate it, the game is RPG-ish that evolved into what we know know as ALttP, OoT, MM, WW, and TP.

I think it's the difficulty which made people not like it, NB.

The Time-Limit Nazis are really getting irritating, to me. Majora's Mask. Why do so many people bash it for the three-day system? It works marvelously, and makes the game, IMO. I think they are all just upset that they couldn't find the Bombers or the Moon's Tear before midnight struck. ^_^ Pikmin is also bashed for it's time limit. I like it, and think that the game wouldn't have been the same if you could've been able to spend 5 days getting each part, or more Pikmin.

The media especially hates GTA for what they would say "depict violence and drugs as a good thing." I'd like to see them try and prove that GTA contributed to someone's criminal behavior. But no, they just sit there with their thumbs in their @$$'s and bash it without concrete evidence.

I'd say that's a new topic to be honest, this is about games the gaming media hate, not what the media watchdogs that say 'video games corrupt the minds of children' hate. I'll make a new topic on the latter now.

Um, dude, GTA causes a *lot* of criminal behavior. I remember someone (one_eye?) posting a link to an article about someone who stabbed someone else, to see if it was like how it was in GTA. >_> I'm not saying the GTA series is the epitome of evil or anything, but there are some idiots out there who copy it and take inspiration from it and... Like I said, they're idiots.
