What are your thoughts on the constant panic of hidden messages in media?

In my opinion, people seriously need to move on. Their non effectiveness was actually proven quite some time ago, yet we've still got all these rather deluded obsessives combing through various fiction and other stuff with a fine comb looking for hidden message, bonus points being if it's either 'ancient conspiracy', 'sexual reference' or 'satanic'.

Quick reference list for some of the things I mean here:

Not to mention all the crap about hidden message supposedly in games, remember all the idiocy that Mario Galaxy box art caused? On that note, when will they realise that even in the worst case scenario, that such messages actually worked even some of the time, a badly misspelt jumble of words isn't delibate?

Your opinions?

Another quick reference which pretty much spells it out quite clearly and mocks this idiocy:

I think these kinds of messages are wrong, and shows that the person/ company are pathetic and result to hyptonizing people.

One time I read that a clip from "Hit me baby one more time" that was supposed to sound like "I am a slut" in reversed. I didn't think that sounded anything like "I am a slut?" It sounded to me like she was saying "Ohhhhh Ssssnap!"

What about that "grant kids to hell" thingy in WWTouched? Or that one involving Never Gonna Give You Up played backwards?

I honestly believe it's all a coincidence (fake in other words), especially when it comes to music/backmasking music. How could the music artists actually put those subliminal messages in there? Even with today's wonders of audio engineering, I don't believe there's any way a musical genius can pull that off.

Yo dragonboy, the Britney Spears song actually supposedly said "sleep with me, I'm not too young". I heard this for myself at least twice, and I heard the supposed words but again, I'm skeptic on this and I believe it as mere coincidence. In your case, it sounded like something else. This is expected of backmasking, where people hear the manipulated audio in different results.

TUK, I just checked up on the two songs you mentioned. It does sound like Ashley is saying "I grant kids to hell" and Rick Astley is saying "Praise the Nazis" but this is all honestly coincidence, especially the latter where the words are too much blurred. Seriously, why would Rick say such a thing?

That sounds really stupid that they think we would judge a singer based on something they sang played backward.

I just heard that. So funny.

Here's a point though, Granting Kids to hell is a horribly formatted, and generally meaningless sentence. That wouldn't be deliberate, if it was, it'd be grammar checked for one thing. I heard there was a hidden message though, but it was just an advertisement/endorsement for WarioWare itself.

The Rick Astley one seems even more likely to be a random coincidence, since the former message, the WarioWare one had at least something to do with the song and character. Fascism? Rick Astley? No such possible connection.

^Can you elaborate?

Oh, and the real WarioWare message, according to Mario Wiki is:

EnOre Bmu N Si O I Ra Wn I Ed A M

The other way is 'Made in Wario is Number One', Made in Wario being WarioWare's japanese name.

The man who orignally conducted these studies lied about his results because he couldn't believe that sublimal messages didn't work. XD
