This is a discussion about game design, both in general and how it's mostly shooters. Now before you argue, yes I know there are many games beyond that, but I'm willing to put my life down that most of the top selling games of PS3 and Xbox360 (and maybe computers) have guns as a core gimmick. What are your thoughts?

I agree with you. Name one bestselling PS3 game that isn't a shooter.

i hate shooters. there's no depth or true sense of feeling in them. thats why i love legend of zelda. its so deep and intricate on multiple multitudes. (it means the characters have attitude in, simple words.) that why i got a wii, not a 360 or a ps3. shooters have... nothing but blood. how is shooting people to death with a stupid gun fun? i don't know. thats why i don't play those stupid shooters. i mean, i used thing like bows and arrows in video games. i LOVE the bow, but the bow isn't the only thing in the game. 1st-person shooters are just BANG, BANG, BANG!!!

There are some very good FPS (First Person Shooter) titles out there. Halo, GTA, C&C Renegade, Quake, and Unreal Tournament are the more prominent ones that I instantly think of. These not only have guns but also vehicles and many other diverse elements of gameplay. They also have their own storylines, furthering the questionable depth each one has.

I wouldn't personally say it's just deformed to *bang* or whatever, many FPS are still great games, and their doing well in the market is more to do with them being good games (aka, like the Call of Duty series) that due to just being shooting games. Sure, there are probably a few people who think any game with/without shooting elements sucks, but those are quite honestly a minority that should be ignored.

Halo, Gears of War, Red Faction.
They are all shooters but have AWESOME story lines.
If you say all shooters have no depth and characters that matter, your dead wrong and have never played them but just watched them for a few min.

Shooters: there fun cause you can't do it in life with the law on your tail. It really could happen like Half Life 2. Well, It could, break the law, kill the cops, a lot of stuff can happen you know... we just don't aim for it. The only thing thats blocking is games. Imagine it this way. You play Half life 2, You wanna be like Gordan Freeman. Well, heres one thing thats common for FPS gamers. Your FAT! its so true... What isnt preventing us to be honest... theres no such thing as freedom. Ya, maybe the only best games are Shooter. Thats cause you can't do it in the real world. The only thing why there so good is cause, you can't legitimately.anything else i need to cover?

You can't do most of what's in various video games in the real world, not just what's in First Person Shooters. Most video games as a whole, as one of their key strengths are indeed wish fulfilment. That's why I dislike games that try to be ultra realistic (which to be fair, even most FPS games don't try to be). The real world is great and all, but in part because it's real. It's too limited by all the physical limitations and laws and rules for much of an enjoyable game on it's own. That's why science fiction and fantasy themes exist in games, that's why even FPS games like Halo and Gears of War have story elements that aren't about ultra realism.
But back to the topic, no, game design hasn't devolved or deformed.

what i think your trying to say is that we want sci fi games because of what they offer, a chance to leave our boring real lives behind, and enjoy fantasies that hopefully will never happen, but its impossible to make a game for everyone, not everyone likes the same games, some people like realistic ones, some people like sci fi ones, and those things cant be combined, so there will never be a mix of sci fi and real games to entertain, it cant be done.
oh, and i think game designs have improved, more people are playing video games, and different fads are coming, and we are preparing for the next game fad every day

If you don't like shooters and you want less of them...MAKE THEM YOURSELVES.
Its not like they decide, OH I'm gonna make a new series of shooters!
These people had ideas for these games for long times, and they actually made them happen. If you don't like the games that are out, then you can stop b*tching and moaning and learn C+ or C++ yourself, go to DevRy, and start a company yourself, hire dozens of developers, mappers, voice actors, modelers, and animators.
Or you can just except the fact that theres a lot of FPS games and just play OTHER games. :D
