View Full Version : Illegal Downloading

I mean, I think I've been doing this for quite some time, but it's only for songs. Some people do this anyway without realizing the consequence of getting caught by the FBI, CIA, ect. But they do it anyway, just like me. :( So here's where the topic's point comes in play; should we stop illegal downloading and switch to downloading and paying off of iTunes, Zune, ect.? Just a debate or some crap like that.

No, you should continue to illegally download stuff. /sarcasm

To be fair, I personally don't hate the fact it's illegal and people are punished for it, but what I do hate is how overexaggerated the effects and what not are. The punishments should quite frankly be fixed for minor civil things like this, there are far worse crimes with relatively lax punishments due to how it seems the courts basically would rather punish someone for going against a big corporation than an actual major crime. On the other hand, I think we should have harsher punishments not for this, I personally don't care much for all the copyright rubbish myself, but for things that matter, like hackers, virus creators, etc who frankly have destroyed enough lives and incomes to go behind bars and stay there, not get a mere slap on the wrist while some 'internet pirate' gets some huge fine and a prison sentence.

It's something nice when you're younger, but once you get a job or some sort of income you should pay for it.

That's a good point. Didn't think of that.

Yes. That seems appropriate to say, since some people are not mature enough to officially pay for songs yet.

Yeah, I used to use Limewire, but now that I have a job I'm replacing all of my songs via Rhapsody.

This is my first post/login here since... I don't know, February?
Anyway, I use Frostwire to donwload songs right now, but I never actually took into consideration if I were to get caught. I don't relly want to spend my money on an album, when I only like one song from it. This is why I use Frostwire. If I actually like most of the songs on the album, I'll go out and buy it. Otherwise, I see no point in wasting $15 for one song. This is just the way I see it. Most of you will probably see this as wrong, though. lol

Actually, I agree Pills. That's a good mindset. One song and you'll just download it. Multiple, and you'll buy it legit.

Just make your own music. It may be very hard, terrible, suckish, noise pollution but at least you'll have music! Joking, although I made a techno remix via Super Mario Bros. that sounded wonderful.

Illegal download of music has sometimes been a bad thing. It caused the band Metallica to lose a lot of money, and several college students were severely fined for it. So things should be done honestly, for most part. I admit, I myself have downloaded Metallica music from Limewire in the past. But now I bought all the Metallica albums to date bar their latest album (thanks to my birthday money I saved up for so long, what else to buy with it all?), so it's all good. Since then I had Limewire uninstalled and I do things honestly for most part.
<_< Heh, I.. err... guess you could say I've down some "underhanded" things lately, or maybe not. I have been downloading video game music lately for my Robot Storm playlist. But then again, a good deal of these songs are also remixes, so as Apollo from the Robot Storm forums mentioned, the official copyright holders will go after the remixers first if anything. Also, it' just video game music and not like the entire game (music rips if you define it that way), so it's not bad if you ask me. Commander Elerium (or it could have been Ash or Apollo) from Revora forums once noted on a music based question about their mod "We aren't making money from the music, so we're not stealing them." That is a very true statement right there.

You could just purchase the song by itself Pills. It's only $0.99 a song, with some of the more popular ones being $1.29 at Rhapsody. You could find it cheaper elsewhere, but that's where I get my MP3s from.

It's the same things as using a freeware program, except you don't have to install anything. You just add the MP3s to your cart and then checkout. Once you've done that the MP3s will download onto your computer and the rest is up to you.

Sounds like a good idea, but I don't think I'll do it. =/

Downloading ANY games onto your computer (I mean ****), is illegal, unless its an IPS patch or whatever.
I don't think you should. I only download things I have so I can hack it.
Why would you download them if you already have them?

I always use Torrents for music... I know it's dangerous, but I'm not going to pay for a few songs. <_< Or I download them from YouTube videos... I think that it's not illegal unless you are the one pirating the stuff... :D

I like that idea. I mean you may not be able to pay for it when you're like 10. But once you do have the ability, it would be nice. Also, the punishments are extremely unnessesary. You can get 5 years for 1 account of illegal downloading. Also, I've done it over 20 times and I'm not in jail yet.

I downloaded the Counter Strike games illegally because of two reasons:
Key Codes- I get new PC's a lot and Steam is always acting up on my PC so I can't just re-download it to the new one. I have to buy it AGAIN. In fact, I have 5 Battlefield 2 copies because of JUST THAT! I'm tired of it. In fact, the key code that came with my new one had been cracked so now I can't go online..WTF >: |
Installing- For some reason they just don't like my computer and refuse to install...I wonder why..
