View Full Version : Global Warming; Does It Exist?

I know this is kind of old, but I personally don't believe in it. I mean, the "Go Green" rhetoric is nice, but let's not say that we will all die from a wide open ozone layer if we don't. Yes, we do need to reduce on greenhouse emisssions, but let's not panic about ice caps melting, rising ocean level, and dying polar bears. These things are important, but we are doing the best we can through legislation and personal lifestyle changes. We are consolidating our trips, putting the three R's to good use, and using less, generally. Thanks to this, I don't think that this issue deserves so much panic anymore; what do you guys think?

Ice caps are melting as we speak.

I believe that Global Warming has died down, and everything is recovering, even the ozone layer. Because the issue is not harmful now, I also don't think that this issue deserves so much panic anymore.

True enough, that's why there isn't so much panic. But that dosen't mean we should stop our energy saving ways thanks to this bit of good news.

I don't think it exists. I think Al Gore is a mentally insane Democrat, who wants to scare people into thinking the world is dying out.

I do. I recently did a research project on global environmental issues. Global Warming was a big one, and I do believe to be real. I don't think people need to panic, but even if we completely stopped using all man-made products and machines that generated CO2, the effects would still continue for several years. The world isn't going to burst into flames, but we do have some things to worry about, like the melting ice caps. This causes sea levels to rise. And if sea levels rise, coast dwellers have to move inland. Causing overcrowding. See the chain reaction?

Yes, good observations Zexis. :)

It's recovering, as long as CFCs aren't around (much) the people won't go insane.

Ah but Zexis, ifthe Earth get's warmer there will be much more evaporation, causing very cloudy days and over-cast. Thus tempetures shall drop.
Overcrowing? The cooler weather will ring back the icecaps, which then a land surplus would occur. The land my be full of sand but a little man power could simply fix it no problem.

No, see, that's just it; the icecaps AREN'T coming back. A little bit of extra cloud coverage will not stop the Earth from receiving the sun's energy. And let's not forget that UV rays can still penetrate clouds, since they are just water. Once those caps melt, there is no way that the Earth is going to cool enough again for more ice to form, and those glaciers have been there for a LONG time. We would need something to the extreme of an another Ice Age for them to recover.

i believe that the reason you guys believe in it, is because there are retards up in the capital that don't know squat about science

Politicians might not know much about it, but the scientists that study the environment do. And it's from their studies that I have to come to believe in the gradual heating of the Earth's atmosphere.

global warming is just a myth, Chuck Norris just got cold and decided to turn up the sun. Joking, global warming is overkill in my opinion, though.

not really , i saw a show thing that showed what would happen... idiots(the guys who made the show, they were like, the world will turn into a giant ball of sand! lol)

Thats what happened when the ozone layer breaks. If you didn't know there is something called an ozone layer. The ozone layer blocks the suns rays. If the ozone layer suddenly disappeared the earth would be a desert. Also I hate how you say sand. Your old enough to say desert.

16th June 2009, 09:35 PM
lol, i know what the ozone layer is
orga the alien
16th June 2009, 09:39 PM
Well if you knew that then you would know that it protects the earth from turning into a desert. Also the 1 degree does make a difference. Look at temapture. Below 32 degrees water freezes. One degree higher and it melts. ONE DEGREE DOES MATTER
laharl
16th June 2009, 09:40 PM
yea but temps always changing, so what
orga the alien
16th June 2009, 09:43 PM
Tempature does change daily. But what they mean by one "degree" is the avarage of the highest tempature. Slowly the climate gets hotter. Over a long period of time. Also the ozone layer is slowly. You have to think in a bigger scale. Not in the now but also in the past and future.

Its a debate, your supposed to argue.

Yeah. If you can't argue without hurrling insults at someone you have clearly lost the debate.
Zexis
17th June 2009, 04:18 PM
This board is meant for debating. So far, we haven't had any problems with conduct. You can argue, but you can argue with respect and without empty insults that act as a poor substitute for decent debates.
Now, laharl, I don't agree with the people that are flipping out over global warming. The world isn't going to burst into flames tomorrow. But it does present issues. It is true that the global climate fluctuates naturally. The problem is that we are seeing changes that aren't natural, changes we can only assume are because of us. Since the Industrial Revolution of the 1800's, we've been pumping countless tons of carbon dioxide into the Earth's atmosphere. For the betterment of mankind, we harmed the environment. Are harming. This is the only planet in our solar system capable of sustaining life.
Do you really want to kill it?
nickyivyca
17th June 2009, 06:06 PM
Exactly. We need to save the only nearby planet capable of easily sustaining life. Other planets may be able to, but not that easily. And also, I once read somewhere that if we didn't do any Earth-polluting thing, it would take 100 years for the Earth to reset. That's a long time.

Climate change is real, just extremely exaggerated, and not as affected by humans as some may think.

Clouds, many clouds, block heat, it is already cold up thee, all it needs is a boost and ice will form. Etc.
