View Full Version : Anyone else getting extremely annoyed at the general pessimism of the world nowadays?

Seriously, everything seems to be 'think the worst possible scenario', 'panic', 'everything sucks' and 'nothing can be done before the apocalypse'. Just going on internet forums makes me honestly wish a lot of these people would either just go away and never return, or seek a psychiatrist, just because so many of these fears are completely and utterly unfounded, and because I think personally no one's ever going to go anywhere in life with that rather cynical, helpless, hopeless attitude.

Anyone else tired with the general pessimism of people in the world?

All the time. Every day at school, I would always hear f*** this or f*** that... etc. Half of my friends talk about how much life sucks for them and always talks about their problems all the time. I know how you feel cheat, especially since I'm an optimist. Optimism ftw!

I hate all those 2012 idiots.

Agreed with the optimism thing mariowings. I never got why people nowadays seem to have bought into the 'extreme negatively about everything equals good' thing.

Oh, and orga the alien, this wasn't really about 2012 and the 'world ends' stuff, that deserves it's only topic (but you're right, it's ridiculously stupid, completely ungrounded in logic and something that will not happen, period).

Aw man. i hate ppl like this. I mean if its so bad, why not actually DO something about it if you think its gonna happen instead of being negative, depressed, and lazy?! Seriously... some ppl don't even try to think of solutions for problems most of the time. the sad thing is the problem didn't happen yet and may not even happen!!

Yeah, I don't like it. I'm not an optimist, but not a pessimist. Sort of in a middle ground. But I still hate those 2012 idiots, like what Orga said.

I don't think everything sucks now. I actually have a pretty good attitude now.

Well Cheatmaster you can't always help not being depressed. Depression comes from boredom. I try not to be depressed but sometimes I am.

Agreed, Orga.

Cheat, I see more pessimism from you than I see from anyone else.

Sorry if this is harsh, but every second post you make is complaining about something. Every second complaint you make is about video games.

Now, you're being pessimistic about people being pessimistic.

There's a difference between looking for some comfort and being a pessimist. "Why should we bother with global warming? We're all dead in 3 years" is being a pessimist. "I don't know what to do anymore. Everything seems to be going wrong. My mom and step-dad want me to move out, my girlfriend dumped me and my father thinks I'm a failure" is somewhere between an emotional breakdown and looking for some comfort. If people seem angry about something and they're talking to you about it, it's called venting, they want it out of their head (if someone's venting to you, think of yourself as an emotional punching bag. They're hitting you because they know they won't hurt you by doing so).

Theres a ton of crappy things in my life but I don't go b*tching and moaning down hallways and complaining to people who REALLY don't care. People like that are completely self-centered and selfish. But when people are like that about something REALLY stupid, it pisses me off. Oh no! The teacher yelled at me for talking when she was! I don't think we can ever make eye contact again! She'll probably fail me! My life is ruined!!!

^Lol that is super pessimist. Zamurick, you do have a point. Cheat has been complaining about some things lately, but I think it's pretty legit because he wants to have active disscussion about every other qualities in video games; he may complain about something and then another user will come and legitimize the quality Cheat is complaining about, and there will be a successful disscusion. Hope that makes enough sense.

Harsh, but sadly for myself true. Three quarters however is due to the fact I want to update my blog and site articles roughly once or twice every single day, and with the current lack of gaming news around, this means I've either got to search around for fan projects that look really, really promising, or come up with something very, very quickly to gain even more visitors. Remember, I'm trying extremely hard to stop the site complete dying out like many, many of it's competitors and affiliates, whom at this kind of 'E3 is over, now just silence' period in the gaming industry are forced to basically watch their sites nearly completely die down or have all the activity in general chat and forum games. But I'll admit, I'm too pessimistic myself a decent amount of the time.

Secondly, it's probably because pessimism is easy, which is what's the problem behind it being so widespread. Think about it, many, many blogs and internet writers are extremely negative, as are many video creators on Youtube and what not. But that's probably because it's easier to complain about everything than have to actually justify yourself and come up with a nice balanced argument. Think about it, how interesting would someone like Maddox or Angry Video Game Nerd/Irrate Gamer/clones be if they were all happy and positive?

But I'm going to try and be a lot more cheery and upbeat in future, seriously.
