Known as the forbidden device by some, hated by many because of those which abuse it over wifi, the Action Replay is a powerful machine which gives you powers in games beyond your beliefs. But how good exactly is the device? Do the codes have errors? Is it safe?

Safety

The Action Replay is generally 100% safe. It always has, and it probably always will be. Yes, many have stories of game corruption and unwanted side effects, but it is my firm belief that most of this stems from the corporate propoganda of the Nintendo company, and many others who do not approve of such accessories. Since I have tried it, I have not lost one piece of data to the codes or game enhancement. That alone should prove the safety of this device.

Codes

The range of codes is pretty good. There are codes for accessing beta and test areas, which are my favourite types for research purpose, codes for the cool stuff like super speed, moon jumping (infinite upwards movement) and some other neat stuff like giant and tiny characters. In the games I tested, such as Super Mario 64 DS, there are also some interesting and different codes I liked, such as instantly being able to turn to metal Wario with the press of a button or two, or instant character transformation, allowing Yoshi to enter Big Boo's Haunt and Chief Chilly Challenge. These then led to great findings of what bosses say and how Yoshi's abilities interact with the items and monsters in the levels. All in all, a good selection, and one that can be boosted from codes gained online, from official and unofficial sources.

Ease of use

Not difficult to use. Just put in the AR cart, start it, take out the cart, put in any DS game, click the icon of a tick, select some codes to use and press the big red button to start up the game. I recommend you don't use it without codes though. Because that's just pointless.

Also, in case you are wondering, there is a minor flaw in that when you start the DS, the Action Replay immediately loads up. This stops you selecting GBA games or Pictochat with the cart in. Not a big deal though.

Overall

Overall I would say it's a great device to use for fun and experimentation purposes. Just please, whatever you do, do not use it online, as that seriously ruins it for everyone else...

Thanks. Because you don't really need a big review for an accessory which is not truly a game.

A few glitches here and there, but nothing too drastic. Nice review.

To be honest, most times it freezes occur when you try something out of the ordinary, probably recommended use.

too bad.
and...
you should make the rank intervals for mkds intervals of 100 so that i can still rank up past a lightning bolt. i think all ranks should have a 10,000+ rank just so you keep posting and stay active. it makes the most sense to me.

I would, but Nintendan makes the ranks, and I'm running out of ideas for my own as well.

then we should confront nintendan!

Or maybe wait until another rank set is being added?

Confront Nintendan! I think he already asked you if it was possible, or at least that's what he told me in a PM.

Excellent review Cheat! I couldn't have said it better myself!

Like you said, the only real flaw is that it automatically boots the game, so you can't try cheats in a DS Download or Pictochat. Oh well. It's still awesome!:)

I think the auto booting is because it is blocked from loading like other, officially licensed DS games.

Since cheatmaster has ignored my questions on AR twice in a PM...

How do the codes work midgame? Like can you just press a button to turn the codes on and off during the game or you have to leave em on?

a. He sometimes doesn't reveive PM's. Actually, he usually doesn't receive PMs.
b. Just click a specified button.

Usually the code specifies what button you need to click to activate it.
