For me, I'd say of course it's not gone up, and it's probably either stayed the same or slowly been going down. Why? Because past statistics are not particularly the most accurate indication of anything. For example, many older eras had a lot of crime either go completely unreported or never get solved/get a conviction. Heck, Victorian crime solving wasn't particularly an advanced thing, and had the same political correctness problems as modern day stuff.
I just personally hate the crap about today's population being so much worse than those past generations. I kinda love how these newspapers always portray their own writers and their generations as such angels that could do no wrong and the world as some utopia until this that or the other. Absolute rubbish if you ask me.
