Have any of you seen this TV show called Whale Wars?
It's about an enviornmental anti-whaling association called the Sea Sheperds who are trying to stop Japanese whalers from whaling in the Antarctic Ocean.
The problem: Both the Sea Sheperds and the whalers claim to have the law on their side.
This (http://animal.discovery.com/tv/whale-wars/whaling/) mini-article explains the problem a little clearer.
So, what do you think about these guys? Who's doing the right thing, and who are the "bad guys" here?
Discuss.
Personally, while I question a few tactics the Sea Sheperds use, they're doing the right thing in my eyes.

I think it is a stupid show. I saw them on Larry King once. I think the Japanese whalers should keep whaling there are plenty of whales in the world and there is no law about whale murdering. Apparently the Sea Sheperds are throwing rocks at the Japanese whaling ships and that is illegal.

The difference is it isn't that way around. Also, say all the coyotes died out then the rabbits would over population. All the crops would be eaten and there would be a famine. We need to hunt to help keeping order.

Those are plenty of good points ninjablooper. I for one have to disagree about whale harvesting until your hearts content; there are biological conservation documentaries that discuss the issue of "exhausting resources."

These cite instances of related issues, such as fish farming and seafood harvesting. In many cases, marine life has died down and researchers fear that the natural population could go extinct, that's exactly the threat that whale havesting poses. If the whaling ships harvest too many whales, than the population could die down and eventually go extinct. Keeping this in mind, whale harvesters should collect in moderation. I'm aware they do some research of their own and thus are good judges in such context, yet fishermen fish in illegal matters and they easily get away with that due to the issue of no law enforcement in major bodies of water.

What I'm saying is, whaling is something that should be done with major consideration because if the species dies out completely, then there is no way to get whales back on this earth.

The whalers arethe bad guys in this. Whales are going extinct. We need to preserve them
