For me, I'm not sure. Some people say it stops there being some difference between people of different levels of income, but let's be honest here; most people don't just shop differently for clothes based on money but trends and fashions, and you can still tell who's got richer parents by a huge amount of other expensive things like top range phones, ipods, watches, etc that kids will still take into school.

Your opinion?

Meh, I like the ID system. If you don't know what that is I'll explain.

You mean where you have to swipe an ID card to get through the gate/past security? They had that in the college I went to, although not my current university.

Nah we just have ID cards and they check if you have it on, if you don't you have to go to a room right by to get a Temp. ID. Otherwise no one else can get in.

We have PE uniforms and a dress code. Nothing else. Though I don't really have to worry about the dress code, it only applies to girls for the most part. Just sagging and bad messages is all us boys have to worry about...

But, I have to admit, it would be pretty weird wearing PE clothes outside all day, so I say that uniforms are a pretty weird idea.

My school has uniforms. Two types of uniforms; sports uniform and formal uniform, though it doesn't matter which one you wear.

I don't think it matters.

Uniforms suck. My school makes us wear one for the subjects, and one for P.E. And they make us tuck our shirt in. >_>

Personnaly I don't see a reason for having uniforms, I don't think ti's stupid I just don't see why some schools have them. As nicky said, my school also has a dress code, but it applies to girls mostly too.

Yeah, dress codes are needed. One time my teacher told me a story of why she needed to enforce the dress code.

The boys were getting too distracted.

Uniforms suck, I have them I have to tuck in my shirt though that's the worst part, if I didn't have to do that I honestly wouldn't care that much about the lame clothes but we do have "dress down days where we can pretty much were whatever we want, speaking of witch, I have one tomorrow, but yeah I don't care about the clothes just tucking your shirt in, and now if they see it un tucked they automatically give you ISI (in school suspension) the abbreviation doesn't make much sense, I hate it so much because I'm a person who hates dressing up and looking "formal".

I think it should be optional, or they should let the students vote.

I think it's a waste, kids should be allowed to wear what they want, as long as it follows the appropiate school rules.

Yeah, kids wearing what they want as long as it follows a dress code is the best way to restrict clothing.

If it was optional, people would never wear their uniforms. If kids were to vote on it, nobody would vote for it.

This is so true, I agree entirely with this.

Uniforms however provide a sense of unity with the school/college. Many folks actually prefer uniforms so they spiritualize with their learning environment, this is a key motivator of adapting and therefore learn well.

A dress code may not be enough for certain schools. To achieve a more ideal "professional" learning environment, some schools enforce uniforms to create a higher level of education.

As an anime fan I love school uniforms found in shows. Sailor Moon for example had a variety of schools that the cast separately went to, therefore Ami and Usagi had their own style while Rei had another outfit and Makoto had her own unique outfit out of the group. All in all, each anime show (and manga) presents sophisticated attire in school uniforms and this is all the more reason why to actually love uniforms.

That's exactly what my school does.[sarcasm] STALKER [sarcasm/]

Anyways, my school says to wear uniform because they want to know that you go to the school. Atleast the only uniform is the t-shirt, you can wear any pants/shorts (for girls (and boys?) up to the middle finger when arm is straight down). Oh yeah, and slippers and socks and shoes. Most of you must go to private schools, because in mine, I also had to tuck my shirt it. Now i'm in a public school.

Uniforms are BS. They lack creativeity, promote being "one of them", and actually discourage education

I have to disagree with you imalittlecrazy. I actually perceive uniforms as being a good thing. They might lack creativity to you, but I find them to be a good quality fashion statement. Seriously, I think people look better in a uniform (or any formal attire for this matter) than street clothes. Of course, not all street clothes are of the bad kind, there are actually good quality casual clothes out there. I just consider a uniform as a superb choice for school as it promotes a sense of good appearance and professionalism.

You said "promote being "one of them"", what do you mean by this?

I do not see uniforms as discouraging education. Why do you believe this is so?
