A special rank is definitely needed for those who aren't staff. A rank given only to the few who are nice, smart, and helpful. NSider used a Trifore and called this rank being a 'Sage,' and I think we should use blue letters 'DSU' and add them next to someones name. The letters would appear everywhere: their posts, the shoutbox, the members online list, etc. It would recognize those specifici people for their commitment and brains. I have two people that I would give this rank to. ;) Vote yay or nay!
[Anyone can pick someone, but it has to go through a vote and be finalized with cheat-master30.]
Also, you can only have one special rank. So if you're a mod/admin, sorry, but you have already been selected for your smarts in a specific category or the whole board. Thank you, and please vote!

ALSO, DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE SPECIFIC NAME OF THE RANK?

You are already a mod! You can only have one special rank! :D I could tell you who I am going to select for voting in a PM, if you really wanted to know.

I would. I think I might even fit the bill. :)
I vote yay, although that might just mean that they're next in line for a mod position. >_> However, it makes sense still. It depends on how many you'd want to administrate this title to.

No. Most people that get this rank might never become a mod. You have to understand that mods and admins aren't the only special rank; and that getting this rank wouldn't be a 'next-in-line for mod' type of thing. Sure, every now and then someone that has this rank might become a mod, but that's a given.
We also need a name for this rank.

ALSO, DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE SPECIFIC NAME OF THE RANK?
First, I am NOT keen on the sage program idea. I felt it made some feel better than others and gave an elitist attitude of increased respect towards those who received the rank. However, I would be MORE likely to say yes if these conditions were met.
1- There should be NO extra powers. Everyone will always be allowed to edit, soft delete or do most things with their own posts. Everyone will have equal sigs, profiles, avatars and titles. I want everyone to feel special in their powers on this forum. No extra powers to make an elitist feel.
2- They should have a board set out far better than Nsider. Only they start topics, but ANYONE can reply to them, like the announcements board. They should be able to get as much feedback and criticism as anyone else on their postings.
3- Same rules enforced to same extent. No mercy to favourites.
4- No green name. I want a cooler colour.
5- I must always finalise the choice, and the contestants must be picked from the intelligent, fair, popular members of the forum who ARE NOT mods or admins already. The mods and admins can do whatever these guys can do anyway...
6- No picking friends or those with the same view. Heck, a good debater with a different view would be just as good a member for this.
7- No secret forums. What this rank sees, so does everyone else who's a member. And they can reply as well.
8- No actual 'writing test' for entry. Who cares if you can write a review. IGN and Gamespot can, and they can't play the games well for their freaking life. Or say anything other than predictable. Give everyone a chance, and it's mainly based on having a strong viewpoint and a good grasp of gaming information.
Note: In case you wondered, I refuse to add a premium (pay only usergroup) at all for similar reasons. I also refuse on principal to base affiliation on meanless stats or to give any ranking power differences.

Those all sound good with me. They make the 'Sage' system even better.
I have an idea! Is it possible to make their name always appear in three different colors? You know how the top banner has the green ---> yellow ---> red stripe. Maybe make their names in the color? It might have to be done manually, but there wont be too many, and how long could that possibly take?
Also, we still need a name.
