prolouge: i remember playing this game when i was about 9 i think it was on the sega genisis wonder boy is a pretty popular series i think either way it was in the arcades and as it was a good game it was written in japaneze english(meaning it was in english but not very good let me give you an example of the old arcade version) "so what you buy?"hehehe.......the game is also available on wii,s virtual console for 800 points depending on this review this should decide the fate you buying it or not! hahaha anyway here is the review.
GAMEPLAY: 9/10 it has various worlds with diffrent themes but This game has many zelda like elements or mabey zelda(like princesses for example) copied this game either way it is simmiler to one or the other you get an orcarina(which is only used once in the game though) you get a sword and sheild but you can customize your weapons by buying diffrent weapons in the game you have deffence power attack power speed power you can not only customize your weapons but your boots armor ect, you get various forms of magic in the game to such as attack power up sheild power up fire storm quake and more. The game has various villages and bosses just like zelda basiclly it plays alot like zelda 2(i have never played that but i seen videos of it) although the over world is all side scroller unlike zelda 2 however it is still very fun but the customizesation can be really pointless as near the end of the game(this isen,t really a spoiler anyway) you get the strongest set of boots armor weapons ect, in the game trying to buy everything is just a nice addition to spend all the gold you get and ya gold is the currency in this game although it is fun it does get repetivive for some reason but that,s really only if you continuasly keep replaying and replaying so this isen,t a game that can hold out forever and you only get one file that,s it you can have a new game or continue but luckily in the wii version you can just save at a inn instead of putting a 40 button password to save(can,t remeber which system though as it was on another system to) all in all the game play is pretty fun.

STORY: 1/10
The story is completely ridiculos in this game here is the story:in the land of monster world(yup that,s what,s it called!) has been invaded by monsters and a young boy named shion(how do you even pronounce that?) must go on a quest to defeat the monsters......you see your blue haired hero in his house weilding a sword there,s no personalityy in the charecter or anything just a mewt kid or adult whatever(can,t tell) but either way this has a ridiculos story i know this game is old but it could have at LEAST used a better story anything other than that cliche story could have been great i mean it,s just so pathetic....anyway enough ranting you do meet various charecters in the game but they lack personailty to either way this had a bad story but at least it had a story unlike mario....no wait mario has a story heheh i guess this is what both games share basiclly no story =/ but i haven,t played any other wonder boy games so i can,t say what the general story lines are like the mario games or they are just diffrent each game.

GRAPHICS: 9.9/10
sometimes the detail may look a bit funny but other than that the hand drawn graphics were very well done although it has sort of a chibi style but don,t over due it. it was done rather nice the enviroments and inside of buildings looks like the people that made the game really tried and for that the graphics are ok i really have nothing to gripe about even the bosses look pretty nice.

CONTROLS: 8/10
well it depends there was a system(i really wish i could remember) the game was on so i can,t judge the controls i remember the sega genesis controls being fine the gamecube controlls are ok the only problem i had was A was to attack and B was to jump it is a bit awkward but you really do get used to it after a bit anyway the wii controlls ar ok 1 is to attack and 2 is to jump the only thing i have seriosu problem with is useing magic you must press A and then press left or right on the D pad most of the time it never works so if you have a potion set and can,t get it to work the first time to refill your hearts(yes just like in zelda XD you get heart containers but then again mabey zelda ph picked up on this and copied them instead of useing heart peices? XD) anyway you may end up getting killed or not being able to cast magic fast enough anyway the controlls are ok i mean useing the orcarina on wii can seem awkward as for example there are A,B,C notes but on the wii mote for example A is A 1 is B and C is 2 it,s a bit confuseing at first but since the orcarina is used ONCE in the game it dosen,t really matter it works fine i think on the genisi controller the gamecube can be a bit more frusterating to but it still works out fine with the orcarina sequence.

ugh.....the sound is simply annoying and repetitive some tunes are catchy but get repetitive after awile to even the last boss tune is the regular boss tune which really got me angrey and seemed rushed just so they did not need to think up a nice epic boss tune...

UNLOCKABLES 1/10
there is almost litterly no unlockables in the game other than getting extra heart containers =/ the original score for this was gonna be a 0 but i rememberd the heart containers so re did this part this game just does not offer anything to look forward to =/

REPLAY VALUE: 5.5/10 Well this game is rather fun continues play will make it boring you can go "farm" for gold i guess to buy a special very expensive gem in the game but either way it just gets boring afterawile i would like to rephrase what i said it depends if you think the game is fun depending how fun you think your first playthrough was will determine the general replay value

DIFFICULTY: 8.9/10 This game can be actually pretty challengeing i have never beaten the last boss(the japaneze version is easier btw) so yes anyway even the first boss can be challengeing as he has no pattern in his attack but if you have a strategy t can make it easier anyway the difficulty is not overwhelming but it,s not a joke either so the difficulty is say from easy medium and hard it is just a tad under hard.

RENT OR BUY?:heheh....since it,s an old game you cannot really "rent" thus game persay but all in all would you rather have a freind buy it and play it on his wii? or would you rather buy it? id say get someone else to buy it convince them with gameplay videos or something becuase the main thing that can ruin this game is the replay value and boredom of continues play.

Although this game is fun like i keep saying the replay value can wear this game out it starts off nice and new but gets old and how i should say "rotten" later but if your a fan of side scrollers or rpg like elements you may like this game.
