Whew, helluva title, eh? Anyways, this is my first review. Ever. I sorta ripped the format from IGN, but hey, the writing's my own. Let me know what you guys think!
LOONEY TUNES: ACME ARSENAL
The Looney Tunes are a namesake. They’ve been around almost as long as your grandparents. They’ve been feeding off of laughs for just as long. The iconic cartoon characters are nothing to scoff at. However, this game puts some dirt on the impressive resume.
STORY
According to the manual, the Evil Scientist is pissed and wants all Looney Tunes erased from existence. In order to do this, he built a time machine to send robots back in time to take out the popular Looney Tunes ancestors. The manual ends by saying that the first mission is to steal the plans for the time machine.
Now, in game, here’s the story:
Bugs and Marvin somehow show up at a secret lab. They decide that to survive, they better kick some ass. Apparently, when all was said and done, they got a blueprint to a time machine, and magically appear by Marvin’s spaceship. Marvin, Bugs, and Taz for some reason run inside, and all the other Looney Tunes are somehow in there. Marvin manages to build a time machine in about 30 seconds, and then boldly announces that if they see something they don’t like in the past, they can go back in time to fix it. Long story short, the ending is stupid and damn near irrelevant to the whole “story” anyways, and the game gives random cutscenes, also irrelative.
3/10
GRAPHICS
Bland. Extremely bland. In most levels, the graphics look about PS2 worthy, and are still very glitchy. The enemies also look quite bad and unoriginal. However, on the positive side, the cutscenes run smoothly and look great, along with the character models.
6/10
SOUND
Hey, now this is good. While the music is extremely lame, the voices of the characters are spot-on, and the sound effects match the feel that the game tries to provide (serious and wacky).
8.5/10
GAMEPLAY
And here’s another bump in the road. This game is for the Wii. Unfortunately, it comes with Wiimote waving. Which is GOD AWFUL. A is jump, B is shoot, D-Pad is the camera, C is an Uppercut, and Z is lock-on/strafe for gunplay (which is also quite lame). Nw, how the hell do you attack? By waving the Wiimote side-to-side. Fair warning: it sucks. Although the controls feel damn near awful, once you get used to it, you end up having a lot of fun. The guns are a decent touch, although they are mostly pointless.
3.5/10
EXTRAS AND CHARACTERS
For those familiar with the Looney Tunes, you’ll find all the characters immediately recognizable. Most notably, Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck, and the Tasmanian Devil. They’ve also included Foghorn Leghorn, Gossamer, and a Hulkified version of Bugs. All characters are fun to use, but are hampered by sloppy controls. As far as extras go, there’s a lame battle mode for up to 4 players, in which you can actually pick the character you want. Also, the only sort of unlockables are hidden trophies throughout the levels, which are only for show and nothing else, and you can buy alternate costumes for the Tunes in battle mode, but they’re hardly noticeable in-game.
OVERALL
Sloppy controls and graphics seem to lead this game towards the garbage, but there is a lot of fun to be had… however, chances are it won’t be found unless you’re a Tunes fan.
7/10 IF YOU’RE A FAN
5.5/10 IF YOU’RE NOT
