For an example, that's pretty good. Although the name 'House' isn't a great idea, and are the coins in the example purple coins? Just asking.

Bowser's Mecha Machina Aka Bowser's Dark Factory

Description: The name is extremely misleading, as it's the only level with Bowser's name where you don't actually fight Bowser at the end of it. Instead, it's a full six star world as usual with the usual secrets but in a very dark, sinister theme. A lot of stuff is also nicked from Bowser's Dark Matter Plant and Freezeflame.

Stars:

1. Through the Gravity Room
2. Subatomic Ice Mario
3. Megaleg's Revenge
4. Tarantox Daredevil Run
5. Purple Coins of the Past
6. Into the Darkness

1. Through the Gravity Room

While I won't explain the full layout, it's a massive four chamber area accessed by a launch star at the start. You have to change the gravity and hit switches to move the obstacles in a way for you to reach the star in the very centre, like an extremely complex logic puzzle. Did I mention Bullet Bills, Bob-ombs and Dark Matter? And a puzzle where you have to destroy something on the ceiling to make it fall to the floor to be used as an aid later?

Note: It's about intellect, not pure brawn and platforming perfection here.

2. Subatomic Ice Mario

From another launch star, you go to a stream of Dark Matter in the sky. How to get across this instant death trap of doom? By becoming Ice Mario and skating across the river, hitting flipswitches and spinning wheels to change the direction of the Dark Matter as it loops across the sky to the platform with a star! It's Hot and Cold Collide on a very deadly level...

3. Megaleg's Revenge

Huh? Yeah, Bowser himself sics an upgraded version of the first reactor boss on you in a new room! The bad news? Well for one, the gravity often changes which adds new obstacles and traps to the mix like dark matter, lava, icy water, bullet bill cannons and moving things! Secondly, the head of Megaleg can now fire Banzai Bills (which home in and take two damage from your health) and the Grand Star machine can fire laser beams across the sky near it's head to fry Mario as he tries to blow it up with a Bullet Bill! Oh, and did I forget to mention? Three hits are needed this time around.

4. Tarantox Daredevil Run

What? Yeah, Tarantox. Not Megaleg, even though Megaleg is fought in the actual level and Tarantox is somehow teleported in from Space Junk Galaxy. Nothing in the rules saying a daredevil run boss has to actually exist in a level mission to be used, is there?

It's exactly the same as the first time though.

5. Purple Coins of the Past

Very clever. Basically, a quick revisit to the worlds gone by earlier. You have to get 10 on the first planet in Good Egg before being blasted to Bugaboom's planet for another 10 in Honeyhive Kingdom. Then visit Space Junk and sling pod your way through 10 purple coins, and visit Battlerock where you have to find the purple coins in the actual Battlerock. A visit to Beach Bowl takes you to the 10 coins on the Cyclone Stone, followed by 10 coins in the mansion in Ghostly Galaxy. A quick 10 coins are collected as you skate across a large flat plane of lava in Freezeflame, followed by 10 coins on Mecha Bowser in Toy Time. Finally, collect the 10 coins in 'Through the Meteor Storm' and then the final 10 can be reached on the planet with the laser platforms in Dreadnought. You then get left by the star in the Grand Finale Galaxy.

6. Into the Darkness:

From careful adventuring on a metal path above a dark matter pool, you have to literally swim in the Dark Matter as Rainbow Mario to collect blue star pieces while avoiding watery foes. Then, you literally have to run through a wall of the stuff to the star.

you want me to do the description for the stars? fine.

1. Yoshi eggs galore: you start off on a green yoshi egg planet, take the launch star to a red yoshi egg planet, where there will be 5 star chips. Gather those 5 star chips to make some pull stars to purple yoshi egg planet. A giant pirahna plant waits for you on top of this planet. Take the launch star to a planet shaped like yoshi's tongue. The star waits for you at the end of the tounge

2. Attack of the 3-headed yoshi: You start of on the green yoshi egg planet, take the bottom launch star to an airship with a cannon to a black yoshi egg planet. On the black yoshi egg, there's a hungry luma, talk to it and feed it 20 star bits. Launch off to a black planet, where you'll fight the boss.
BOSS: The 3 headed yoshi: this boss has 3 heads and 3 attacks, one is fire , another ice, and electricity. There are some koopa shells lying around and 4 hits can defeat it.

3. Yoshi's silver stars: There are silver stars scattered around the galaxy. When you collect all the silver stars, the star will appear on the starting planet.

4. 3 headed yoshi daredevil run: same as star 2 but with one health.

5. Yoshi's Purple coins: 100 coins are in the launch star paths. when you get all 100, the star will appear on the planet you're on.

6. Cosmic Mario Yoshi Race: It's a launch star race, what else. Be the first to reach the black planet. TIP: On the purple yoshi egg, there's a second launch star. it serves as a shortcut so you can be first

King Boo Manor Galaxy

Description: The name titles the locale well, as it takes place in a collection of haunted houses with outdoor real estate. Enemies and other characters are identical or exact to the Ghostly Galaxy, and others are just plain nifty halloween-esque. Unlike past levels, you can manually attack boos as well as any other enemy. You now have a damage meter, able to withstand 500 hits before losing a life and you can regenerate health by picking up coins/food items/other misc. More versatile camera controls are given to you, even a first person mode. To be even more unique from all other levels, you also gain a map, radar, and the ability to wield weapons.

Music: A variation of calm dance music. Music will specifically change depending on a few certain stars you collect.

Stars:

1. Visit a Manor
2. I've got a present for ya!
3. King Boo Battle
4. Infiltrators
5. Purple Coins of the Bog
6. Shurukai Showdown
Bonus. Jack the real estate
Unique. Profit!

1. Visit a Manor:

While I won't explain the full layout, I'll give you a good idea. You begin at a town square of sorts. It is a dark, peaceful halloween setting of the outdoors, so it feels like fall with a soothing atmosphere. There are several manors with large real estate around them all over the place, because note that the town square start-up area places you in the near center of the map. You have free roam power, so scout around the map and you may notice that only one manor is enterable (the one with the gold aurora of light). You have to enter this manor to get the star. Unlike Ghostly Galaxy, this is all laid out like a house in real life, so no black holes and everything looks absolutely real with pinpoint detail.

Now go and defeat at least five enemies anywhere on the map. After you defeat a fifth enemy, a cutscene starts. You see a locked door with a dark crescent moon on it open by itself that you could not open earlier if you attempted to do so. Get to where it is (use the map and radar provided if you feel lost in the complex manor), and go in the room. Inside you see the room is a master bedroom with lots of features, and decorations include a few portraits of Captain Syrup, each with its own pose of her. Now jump on the bed, and the star comes out for you to easily receive.

2. I've got a present for ya!:

Once again, you start at the town square. You can now explore any manor you wish. For this star, look for the manor with the darkest green aurora of light. Enter the house from any entry door, and head down to the celler. There are weapons galore here, take any you find suitable. Search for some of the C4 (a prompt will tell you this on the screen), it is found towards the back of the room on several overhead shelves. Now go all over the house and plant a C4 charge whereever you see a dark green aurora. Many random, cool enemies make this a challenge for you, but not too hard. Enemies range from conventional boos to humanoid ghosts to moving furniture (even a bear cub rug! how cute!). Remember that they're all vulnerable to your attacks, so fend them off when you encounter them with any melee attack/weapon you wield.

When every dark green aurora has a C4 charge, exit the house. When you get a good ways away, a cutscene starts up. Sounding exactly like Havoc from Renegade (yes, this ghostly dimension distorts reality in sweet ways), your character says "I've got a present for ya!" and presses a button on a remote. A massive explosion blows up the entire house, and a star appears in the center of the estate, waiting for you to obtain it.

3. King Boo Battle:

You know where you begin. Search for King Boo's personal manor, it has a picture of him on a sign right outside. Go inside and explore to your hearts content. Oh listen, the music got faint and became a luxurious tune. Turn up the volume if you want to hear it. Search for King Boo himself. Eventually, you will come across a door with King Boo's picture on it. Assuming this is King Boo's favorite room, you enter it. This is a very beautiful living room, with fine furniture all over, beautiful decorations (including portraits of Ashley from Wario Ware), and a fireplace. Wait, what's this then? King Boo is not in the room, nor is any other enemy. Have a look by the curtain that has a sign attached, saying "Look here to fix a tear in the curtain," so you go over to check it out. A cutscene starts, with the music playing softly and your character gazing at the tear, thinking how to fix it. It seems about 30 or 60 seconds pass by with a dark calming hue on the screen, when all of a sudden King Boo pops onto your screen with a loud "YAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"

Your character (and likely you even XD) jumps back in surprise. After your character gets over that scare prank, King Boo says "Tee hee hee, you obviously couldn't handle that." Then your character says in Havoc's voice "Going down!", and fast paced battle music plays. Now you regain control, and King Boo starts flying about the room. This boss is challenging, but not too hard. King Boo may occasionally call in boos to attack you, among some other enemies (including female humanoid ghosts that resemble Samus' finesse) who all resort to melee attacks primarily and very few projectile attacks/weapons. He primarily attacks with melee moves, such as the occasional wave dive to you. Use a good timed ground pound intercept to cancel his attack and deal damage to him when he does this. He has a plasma projectile attack he sometimes uses. Remember that you all have damage meters, so King Boo takes more damage than called in foes.

King Boo has 100 hit points with no regeneration. Boos have 5 hit points with no regeneration, as well as all other reinforcements except for the Samus resemblances. These girls have 40 hit points maximum with regenerative aspect that allows them to regain health if you let them be long enough.

Use projectile weapons (including the laser with infinite ammo) to make even shorter work of enemies. When King Boo is defeated, the other enemies vanish away. He lies on the ground and says, "Guess I got bad karma for that screamer prank earlier on, eh? Oh well, I'll eventually come back from beyond, like I always can. You can't kill a ghost, yet ghosts can kill you. Tee hee hee!" Then he vanishes away and leaves behind a star for you.

4. Infiltrators:

Same beginning. Look for the house with the red aurora. Enter it, and look for the wardrobe storage room. In here, you find a more advanced transformation of Boo Mario/Boo Luigi. Obtain this, and now you can turn fully invisible (only one character can see you when you're invisible, as noticed later on) and shoot plasma. Head to the highest room in the house with this transformation. Enemies you come across in this transformation mode will always ignore you, save for the female boos/female human ghosts you occasionally come across (as you may have thought). Even when they kiss you in this mode, you still retain this mode. If you want to prevent attention then turn invisible. You can turn back to normal whenever you want in a menu feature.

When you enter the highest room, turn invisible and go to the very back. You see two female ghosts are talking, and a cutscene starts.

Ghost girl 1: So Linda, is the Mushroom Kingdom truly destroyed?
Linda: It is in a sense, just with Princess Peach gone and most of it remains Kathy.
Kathy: Oh, so what will Bowser do now?
Linda: Meh, KB (King Boo) nor us care for Bowser. KB will send a ghola of Princess Peach back to the Mushroom Kingdom throne eventually, so KB can directly control the place through the ghola. KB will then also kill off the Bowser and the Koopa Kingdom.
Kathy: Sounds like a good plan.
Linda: Indeed it is. *puts on glasses* I'll go to my computer now-*notices you* hey! Who is that?! That's not one of our residents!

The cutscene ends, and the two ghost girls come after you. Simply defeat them however you wish, they have the same stats as the ghost girls from the KB battle. Now leave this room and go to the room that's indicated on your radar. Before the ghost girl cutscene this door was locked. You can now enter the cloning room. When you do, a brief second cutscene shows that the ghola of Peach as mentioned before is in the middle of hibernation in a vat. Simply smash open the vat, and the ghola comes to life. Battle music plays, and you attack her however you want. This is a medium difficulty boss battle. The Peach ghola will attack with moves and stats akin to Brawl, except without final smashes. When you defeat her, she dies and her lifeless body collapses to the floor. A star emerges from her body for you to obtain.

5. Purple Coins of the Bog:

You know the start up drill. Explore the land until you come to a bog at the edge of one of the estates. This is a non-timed mission, and you instead search for the coins, although arrows and signs easily show you where to find coins. You listen to a remix of the song "Bog" from Command & Conqer Red Alert Aftermath. When you get at least 100 coins, the star appears in the center of the bog.

Watch out for enemies here, such as zombie girls that come up out of the ground unexpectedly. These beautiful but deadly creatures have 40 hit points each with regenerative aspect. Use the shake motion to get them off if they attach to you. They also have other random melee attacks. Other enemies include but are not limited to Swoop bats, stationary ghetto carved Jack-o-Lantern turrets with a single seed spitting projectile attack, and wandering cat girls.

6. Shurukai Showdown:

Go to the spot indicated on your radar. You end up at an estate of a manor, with a hedge maze. You are prompted to go in. An overhead camera view is wise here. You can jump over any part of the maze. When you near the center of the maze, a cutscene activates. The ninja ghost boss "ShuruKai" (I just thought of the name) does a spin jump onto your screen and briefly talks to you, I can't be bothered to say all the things he talks about.

Now to maintain his KB honor, he begins the battle. You hear battle music resembling something from Naruto. He is a notably harder boss than the others in this galaxy, but not too hard either. He gets no reinforcements, and you battle within the maze. He uses some startling tactics from the shadows of the hedges, but you can intercept these melee strikes with ground pounds. Projectile attacks are used less frequently and they're relatively easy to dodge. When he faces you in direct combat, use any means of fighting because he is a cinch in this battle mode. He starts with 70 hit points, get them down to zero to win. When you beat him, he gives a brief (very brief in comparison to before) speech and then vanishes. The star appears and flies to the center of the maze for your retrieval.

Bonus. Jack the real estate:

Select star 2. You begin the place as normal. Go inside the house with an orange aurora around it. There are a few stationary ghetto carved Jack-o-Lantern turrets around the house in various locations, some on shelves and some on the floor. Smash them all. When you smash the last one, a prompt comes on your screen. Go to the living room mentioned on the radar. You will find a beacon device in there, take it. Now go to the town square and activate the beacon. You are warped to another dimension in what looks like the matter splatter house (but no physical hazards like abysses exist), where you see boos and other enemies. It looks like they are defending something important, because this place resembles a Town Hall kind of building. Defeat anyone who stands in your way while heading to the location on radar. You come to a door with a key on it, so you think it needs a key to be opened, or does it? You test it out, and it's actually not locked. Go inside.

It looks like an office for a very important person. You find King Boo inside, not surprisingly. He says from behind a desk that he wants a rematch. The office shifts dimensions into a battle arena with a volcano environment. You face off similar to before, but KB has beefed up stats by 50%. Stationary Red ghetto carved Jack-o-Lantern turrets sometimes emerge from the lava with a small fireball attack now. These turrets only hover for a second, then submerge back into the lava. KB and other foes can be damaged by these attacks if the AI is dumb enough to hit him, and it is. Quite funny actually. Not only can KB summon the same reinforcements as before, but he can now summon ghostly lava girls as well. When he summons these characters, watch out for their flame thrower attacks. They actually have cool enough ectoplasma for you to melee attack them without taking damage. These girls are just like the Samus resemblances in appearance and stats.

Battle music here is upbeat and sounds like Harkonnen music from Emperor: Battle for Dune. When you beat KB, he says "Battle losses make me sad! *briefly cries.*" He then vanishes and the volcano shifts back into the office dimension. A star is above the desk. When you get this star, you beat the galaxy and a message comes up. "You are now the owner of this galaxy."

Unique. Profit!:
Not exactly a star, but an option really. When you come to the galaxy with this option, the place turns a new leaf. Not only can you play around to your hearts content, you actually own the whole place. Interact with your real estate however you want, you are now even friends with all your former enemies here, including the ghosts and ghola you defeated earlier. You may choose to listen to any of the music in this galaxy with a media player option in the menu screen. All signs with King Boo once on them are now replaced with Mario's mug shot. So go on, do what you feel!

Wow Chris, that is one heck of a long description of a galaxy. It does sound interesting though, and since King Boo is one of my favourite Mario characters (King Boo >>>>>>>>> Petey Piranha), it wins points there.

However, a few things I read that interested me:

1. It seems very RPGish rather than Action Adventureish, which seems quite odd. You know, the health, advanced transformation form, NPC characters, various buildings and locations... Feels almost more like a Paper Mario area than a Super Mario Galaxy one. Not that it's a bad thing.

2. Lots of references to the Wario series (I just knew you'd mention Captain Syrup somewhere in that post), which is interesting. I was quite honestly though expecting actual characters from that series to be shown rather than just decorations though, based on guesswork.

3. There's a lot of boss fights, which is good, you can never have too many boss battles. However, a few things:

What the hell is a 'ghola'?
What's with all the Command and Conquer references?
How come three quarters of the characters are apparently female? Does the Toad Brigade appear at all in this?

I wasn't thinking of an RPG while creating these ideas. I was actually thinking more of FPS games, especially C&C Renegade and the Grand Theft Auto series. Massive free roam elements are always a good thing in a game.

What the hell is a 'ghola'?

It is what you read about in the past on a Wiki article, when you said "oh, you mean this thing?" to me in the "What DSU is not" topic. Basically, a ghola is a genetic clone of anybody from any kind of gene sample. These are bred in certain facility vats, and make for excellent spies/replacements of other characters. In campaign mode of Emperor: Battle for Dune, the Ordos battle commander attempts to smuggle gholas into enemy facilities to spy on the enemy. In the Emperor storyline for House Ordos, the Executrix eventually places a ghola of the former emperor on the Golden Lion throne to control the universe with a direct method from the shadows.

What's with all the Command and Conquer references?

They exist because I love the C&C series. They really helped me in formulating ideas for this Galaxy.

How come three quarters of the characters are apparently female? Does the Toad Brigade appear at all in this?

As you may have noted over my course here at DSU, I prefer female characters over male counterpart characters when possible; this is because I find females more attractive then males. If I see some guy in any form of attire, I think nothing of it. Yet if I see a beautiful girl in that kind of attire (or any form actually), I check her out because she's basically a work of art.

As for the Toad Brigade, I wasn't planning on having them in here. Then again, they could be somewhere out there in this galaxy as a bonus.

Meh, call me old fashioned, but I don't think RPG type elements were in FPS and GTA type games until relatively recently. Because when you mention FPS, I was more thinking say, Goldeneye 007, Call of Duty or Halo than any game with that many upgrades and free roaming.

Thanks for that, I guess...

I can tell, if you listed your top ten favourite characters, I bet 9 would be female ones. And yes, the rest of your post makes sense, I just don't see how much this would affect someone's level design ideas. Oh, and the thing about the Toad Brigade is because they appear in nearly every level in Super Mario Galaxy bar the Bowser ones and Trial Galaxies. For example, they appear in:

Honeyhive Galaxy
Space Junk Galaxy
That galaxy with disappearing tiles in dome 2
Ghostly Galaxy
Bubble Breeze Galaxy
Bowser Jr's Airship Armada
Freezeflame Galaxy
Dusty Dune Galaxy
Sea Slide Galaxy
Toy Time Galaxy
Deep Dark Galaxy
Sweet Sweet Galaxy
Bigmouth Galaxy
Grand Finale Galaxy

So I thought them appearing would be pretty likely.

When I mentioned the "stationary ghetto carved Jack-o-Lantern turrets," I should have specifically mentioned what exactly they look like. They resemble the drawn art style of the following guy in the following video, Chris the Jack-o-Lantern.

Warning: Screamer vid! Watch at your own risk!

^ Not bad at all, because I slapped down a warning label to go with it. I clearly stated that the guy in the video resembled my jack-o-lantern idea for the galaxy, so the video is highly justified.

Revenge of the 3-headed yoshi
Old dog, new tricks
Chihuahua war

1. Attack of the chihuahua zombies:
What you must do in this star is to grab a flamethrower on the first planet. Then take a sling star to a planet across from you. There, the ground shakes and hundreds of dead chihuahuas and some cute yorkies will rise from the graves. You must use the flamethrower you have to burn the dogs. There are about 400 chihuahuas and 30 yorkies. When you beat all of them, the star appears

2. Chihuahua dance-off: In this level, you get to watch some chihuahuas dance. You can place a bet for one in the large planet just south of the main planet. If your chihuahua wins, you get the star. If it loses you gotta try again.

There will be a hungry luma, feed the thing 20 star bits and the luma will transform into a giant brown yoshi egg. Take the launch star to the giant brown egg. Once you get there, the ground will shake and... ROAR!!! the 3 headed yoshi steps out from the egg. He has the same attacks as before but he has a new attack: he fires his lazor. 5 hits can beat him.

4. Old dog, new tricks: You can train your own chihuahua to do anything. Once you trained your chihuauha to do everythinig, the Chief chihuahua will award you the star.

5. Chihuahua war: All the chihuahuas have gone into a war with each other. You must find the Golden Dog Poop in an Aztec temple on a planet north of the starting planet. Once you get the Golden Dog Poop, put it in a cup. The cup will shine and create a light so bright, the dogs calm down and make peace. The Chief chihuahua awards you the star.

6. Attack of DOCTOR OCTAGONAPUS:
Doctor Octagonapus is terrorizing the chihuahua galaxy. You must watch out for his deadly lazer beam. You must find 5 red shells to stop the evil doctor from taking over the whole galaxy.

5th February 2010, 06:39 PM
Name: NES Galaxy
Type: Grass/Ground
Description: The good old Super Mario bros from the NES days, in 3D!
Major details: The invisible 1-Up block is still where it usually is, including the good old Goombas N' Koopas. You can still gointo the 3rd from the first 2 left pipes and get the 25 Coins.
Stars:
1-2 Warp Zone: First, you appear in 1-1, but keep on going, and sooner or later, you'll meet the pipe that leads into the underground, from there, stay on the top of the narrow bricks to go to the warp zone. Two Pirahna Plants will go down immedeatly, but the 3rd one will stay for a second, then go down. Choose the Pirahna that went down last 3 times and you'll come out of the pipe holding the Star.

1-4 Battle!: You appear in 1-3, so start jumping on the mushrooms, then go to the end, and go into the Castle. Now travel through the castle like you would in the NES Mario Bros, then fight an NES Bowser at the end, go over or under him, then press the switch, then go into the enxt room to see a Star. Get it.

8-4 Final Boss!: You start out in 8-4, like usual, travel through, then face Bowser at the end. This time he throws hammers. Otherwise same as 1-4 Battle!. Then rescue peach to get the Star.

Luigi Lurker (Purple Coin Comet): Instead of playing as Mario, you play as Luigi. Now there'll be Buzzy Beetles
replacing the goombas, you can be caught by them, and if you do, it restarts the level. First, hit the block at the beginning of 1-1 (The one that contains a mushroom in the real SMB) to get a Boo Mushroom, grab it, and go through the Buzzys to get the first 10 Coins, then hit the light to turn normal, and repeat. Later on (You'll have 60 coins if you collected them all so far) you'll run out of blocks to hit at the first pit, but start jumping where the invisible 1-Up block is to hit a 1-Up out, 10 more Coins and a Boo Mushroom, then continue like normal, and do the same in 1-2 (90 Coins so far). then when you get to the warp zone, the platforms going up are gone, so find a different way somewhere you passed and go up into the warp zone, use a pipe, and it'll give you 3 Coins for the first 2 pipes taken, then take the last to get 4, then you hear a rumbling sound, now choose any pipe to take you back to the beginning of the underground. Now, use the pipe at the end to the Flagpole like normal. And there's the star, behind the Flagpole. Hit the Flagpole, and go around it to get the Star.

Luigi Daredevil (Daredevil Comet): Same as 1-4 Battle!, just with Luigi And 1 Health, but you can't go around Bowser at the end because it turns 2D.

Luigi Final Boss (Speed Comet): Same as 8-4 Final Boss!, just with Luigi, but harder, and you can't go around Bowser at the end. (5:00 Timer)
