View Full Version : Sports games: Why?

See there are many sports games out there and I'm not dissing all of them but when you think about it why? People play video games for several reasons one of them being to get away from the world and go into worlds where any thing is possible to know that if they do something wrong they can always restart. Also to avoid things we get every day. Now if they're gonna make a sports game why not make a spend a full normal day at school game. It for me kinda mixes lazy and obsessiveness. We go to live sports we play in sports games and we watch sports on t.v so WHY BOTHER PUTTING IT IN OUR GAMES? Mario Strikers Charged: GREAT GAME, why? that fantasy touch that ability for growing 5 times the size of anything normal or real or going invincible by getting a star now when payton manning is shooting the ball in a real looking court with pepsi banners and real acting players it's like we'd rather go to a live game and see the real players do real things. The occasional sports game is fun but they made them too confusing and too plentiful. Now think about this would you rather be playing with, a girl in a multicolored suit fighting aliens, an italian plumber riding a dinosaur to save a princess from a giant crazed turtle, a 4 foot tall hedgehog getting emeralds to stop an insane super genius or a sweaty guy drinking gatorade with 5 other sweaty guys. hmm unless you're a girl you should like the others better. Another thing some one tell me any storyline in football? any point after you crossed the field 20 times well unless you can tell me yes I think you should think about it.

Um... Maybe because being able to play sports games is a fantasy to some people. A lot of people can't take as many three point shots as they want in real-life, or run 100m down the field.

Why stop here? If I wanna escape to a magical world why not watch T.V. or read a book? Video games aren't necessary then.

Also, this is neither a guide nor review.

it is I made it because it's how i feel purely opinion aswell video games give you an extra sense like YOU'RE THERE. You're not controlling anything in books nor on t.v and because of that video games are made. As for those people who suck at sports why kid yourself? Pick something else or watch or both. also again I AM NOT DISSING ALL SPORTS GAMES i'm saying make them less frequent and those that aren't realistic like MSC are fine.

What if the person has a physical disease and love sport? I guess they should stop "kidding themselves," huh.

My opinion is more that they should stop releasing games with just new players year after year and only release new games when huge portions of the gameplay has drastically changed. The new players and areas thing is what expansion packs and downloads are for.

I wouldn't have a problem with said games if the updates were more dramatic, or added a lot more stuff.

Or changed the style a lot. Even though one Mario Golf is enough for me.

I don't mind sports games, because I play sports.

However, I don't play them a lot because videogames are my escape from real life.

I get it, you don't play them because you play sports outside of gaming...

I agree with cheat-master30. I don't know why they (PES, FIFA) keep releasing a game every year with just a little difference. The money, I think.

The Wii-PES changed a lot though.

It's because they're greedy and lazy.

^Exactly.

Games like The BIGS are a nice breath of fresh air, though. ^_^

And it was, ND.

I think personally though they should only release the game versions which make major changes...

Like on-fire... Pin-point pitching... Hitstick... >_>

And I'm gonna stop while I'm ahead... <_____<

It's really quite simple. Sports games sell extremely well. It's almost like saying "sex sells". Another reason would be because "mature" gamers don't like "kiddie" games and prefer FPS, Sports, and Fighting games.

Video games are the new gateway drug. Cocaine is now portable.

Sells /= good. Disney tie ins sell, but most of them suck. And 'mature' gamers not liking kiddie games? Guess they've never actually played the Mario series RPGs and realised that many of them cover incredibly dark things in the storylines...
