Out of all the things that are not included in this game, or lacking, what would you add/change about Mario Kart DS?
I would personally add Battle Mode online, allow you to add people to friends lists after races, ignore list (anyone on it cannot race you online), the feather making a return and some more original, Mario based tracks to name some. For some expansion, read this and the below post.
Battle Mode Online
You should be able to choose if you want to race someone or battle them before the races started, and it gets chosen on majority vote. The usual courses would be online, and the winner of balloon battle gets three points, and those in places below get points from 2-0 depending on position. You can also play Shine Thief and Bob-omb Battle (from Double Dash) in this mode as well.
All tracks online
Self explanatory.
Add people to friends lists after a race
Basically, once a race ends, you should have the option to add each person to your friends or ignore lists, similar to how forums work by clicking on a symbol next to each name.
Ignore lists
When someone is on this, they can never be in the same race/battle as you. If you try, they get an error, and their friend code does not register either.
Disconnect record
Like Metroid Prime Hunters. If you disconnect, this goes up and your disconnect rating falls, from 100% connection to less and less, eventually more or less reaching 0%. You can then set a threshold where you can search for races by connection rating, such as 100% for non disconnectors all the way to 0% (free for all).
The Feather
That item that allows you to jump really high in the air, over walls and everything from Super Mario Kart.
More Mario related tracks
This means the Wario and DK tracks should represent those series more than at current, and also means something totally different. This is that there will be no Figure Eight Circuit like tracks, and every track will reference at least one Mario game in a major way, basically throwing you in the deep end in races, no mercy to beginners. And for an example, you would start by getting thrown in a random themed track (depending on game), such as The Forest of Illusion, Luigi's Mansion, Cheep Cheep Lake, whatever.
Disconnect Lock features
Basically, the power button don't work on wifi in a race or before one, and if you are inactive for five seconds, the computer auto pilots your kart to stop the five minute disconnect problem.
Voice Chat
No, this is not free for all voice chat, but what this means is that you can chat with others, but with certain options and restrictions, being able to set it so either:
You can talk to anyone
You can only talk to friends
You cannot talk to anyone
You can only talk using pre-made phrases
You can only talk with keyboard and touch screen style, text only based
You can talk with an advanced text interface (bold, italics, lists, maybe pictures that are pre-set).
Pictochat style communicationPlus, to add, you can block someone from communicating with you by adding them a chat ignore list, either for that race only, for that set of races or permanently.
More emblem control
More colours and pre-made emblems basically.
Text filtering
If someone's name contains swearing, it is filtered out with stars. Can be set on or off.
Custom voice phrases
You can record phrases for each action, like what seems to be in Diddy Kong Racing, and you can also get the defaults for any character or boss. Of course, this may get annoying (imagine someone playing the 'Hi I'm Diasy' phrase for everything).
Different maps
You can see what items they have used whenever in one setting, like see where they used a mushroom, mini turboed, were a Bullet Bill, were invincible etc. You can also set it to map disabled, chat only (no map, just a forum like chat interface) and normal.
Ranking leaderboards
And their rank is by their name on all screens, like the champion has a gold crown by their name in race, on the select screens, on friend lists and in other places like text chat.
Item settings
Like Double Dash, if you are hosting a game, you can have no items, weak items, powerful items or only certain items, Super Smash Bros Melee style. Imagine an all Blue Shell tournament for one example!

Something from the Wario series (Wario Land or Warioware)
Diddy Kong
E GaddOh, and the likeliness of other characters:
Geno/Mallow/any Smithy Gang member- Very small, as they have been in only one game and pretty much never seen or heard of since.
Cackletta- Presumably dead
Princess Shroob- Both are dead, if any Shroobs get in, it will be an all new shroob character or a generic one.
Pauline- Two or three games in total. Not really popular enough any more.Disconnector Bans
That could be a great idea for those who reach a 0% connection rate, where each disconnect after that gets a temporarily ban and eventually a permanent DS ban from all wifi games (or if this is for Wii, a Wii ban from all wifi games). Nice idea there.
