View Full Version : What was your Pokemon Team back then?

The modern Pokemon games in my opinion are boring, so this topic exists so you can think about the old games, and post what team you had back then. Mine was:

Tyranitar
Ho-Oh
Celebi
Suicune
Raikou
Tysplosion

All level 100. Not sure if the spelling is right, so correct if need be. I was invincible then, and my dark type Tyranitar could also destroy someone's Mewtwo or Mew in just one or two hits.

For Poke'mon Blue:

Mewtwo
Mew
Electrode
Rapidash
Kangaskhan
Dragonite

All level 100! Oh, the old days...

I also had a level 260 Magnemite! (Don't ask me how... It happened by mistake...)

Nice! You do mean level 255 for the Magnemite, right? As that's possible using the Missingno glitch.

Well this will be embarassing. First time I played pokemon, it was the Yellow pikachu edition, and boy did I bring new meaning to pikachu edition. I think he was at level 40 when I got to Celadon City.

On Gold my team was Typhlosion at level 100. I was pretty naiive. My only gripe with pokemon now is that they give you a chance to have 6 pokes in your party, but you can't evenly raise all 6 and hope to be ready for each gym. They also made a bunch of crappy HMs, and the Victory Road of each game always demands that you use them, so you have to sideline one of your main pokes just to put in an HM slave. I can't wait for D/P, hopefully they'll have fixed these problems. I also hope that they have more pokemon available right from the get-go. I'm tired of seeing weak normal types and flying types at the beginning and having to wait to get a decent pokemon. I though that the Advance generation did the worst job of this.

Cut- Okay
Fly- Excellent
Surf- Great
Strength- Okay
Flash- awful
Waterfall- Good
Whirlpool- awful (thankfully it got demoted from a HM after Pokemon Gold and Silver)
Rock Smash- pretty bad

Do not know about any HMs from later than about Ruby and Sapphire. Oh, and I get what you mean, as your starter and the game legendary end up as your entire team most of the time, possibly with one back up in case while about 3 or 4 others just sit there doing nothing. Not for me though, as my team were all powerful enough to take down anything in the end (but the first time round, only 3 were, then 4, then 5, then all 6).

Do you agree?

benoit489
14th January 2007, 12:39 AM
yeah, I think my best one might have been Swampert, Camerupt, evolution after Lairon, and a Shiftry(I think that's what its called, dark/grass). I just hate how restricted you are as far as pokemon go. Throw out that crap national dex stuff, I want a large amount to choose from right from the get-go. When I first got Emerald and asked what a good Water-type would be to get at the beginning I could either get Marril or Magikarp. WE HAVE 386 to choose from and there are only 2 water type at the beginning????? I was thoroughly dissapointed. I also picked up Shiftry's base form thinking, "this should make a good grass pokemon", but no, all it had as far as grass attacks was Giga Drain, and the only move that was worth getting was a Psychic type attack. Why in the world is the best type of attack for a Grass/Dark type pokemon Psychic?

As you can tell from my rant, I'm not to happy with the pokemon we're given to choose from at the beginning (Poochyena, bug types, tailow, marril, seedot, ralts?) Please cut the crap game freak, and give us something to choose from to start with.:(

cheat-master30
14th January 2007, 12:43 AM
You could get a Gyrados for evolving the Magikarp, and who knows what from evolving the Marril. Oh, and I think the National Pokedex is optional, as my cousin got some from the older games with an Action Replay and while you could not access the Pokedex data, you could still use them. Oh, and the best part is when you find the game specific legendary, as they are always super powerful with awesome moves that can often be one hit kill.

If you want a good one for Ruby or Sapphire, how about getting Deoxys with some kind of game enhancement device? Now that's powerful!

I did get all three Regis in Premier Balls one time :) . I just hope that they fix the complete imbalance of the types in D/P. Give me a wide array of types and a wide array of pokemon of those types, and a wide array of pokemon with double-types before I get to the 2nd or 3rd gym and I will be happy.

What type are you guys going to start with in Diamond and Pearl? I want to try the grass type.

I don't play the games no more, being more a fan of Mario and Legend of Zelda games (I will never stop playing Mario games). Still, I would hope that in future, they stop adding too many new things, as I am getting annoyed with the abilities such as levitate, which kill the whole type idea.

I completely don't know about anything other than Poke'mon Blue. (Used to be a fan) so the everything just stuck with me, I suppose

cheat-master30
14th January 2007, 11:47 AM
I only owned the games until Pokemon Gold. Everything after I watched others play instead.

caprontos
14th January 2007, 06:41 PM
I only ever played Red and Lelf green Idk where my red is and in green.. myparty is like:

14th January 2007, 06:45 PM
Nice. I am not really a fan any more, but I used to be and then had collected the games and cards. In fact, as said, I had all level 100 in my team and on Gold also had thanks to Red a level 100 Zapdos, Articuno, Mewtwo, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. I also had many rare cards as shown below:

I never was a fan :)
but I played red
and I bought green for the wireless adaptor witch I was riped off on because it only worked with that game.... (and firered)

cheat-master30
14th January 2007, 07:09 PM
Yeah, the one problem with the wireless adaptor is that it only worked on a few games. Thankfully the DS has free non wired multiplayer built in.

NintenDan
15th January 2007, 07:44 AM
Yay for DS!

cheat-master30
15th January 2007, 05:18 PM
So true. You do not know how much time and conveniance it has helped with when playing local multiplayer on a DS. No having to go around trying to find the link cable any more (I hated that).

benoit489
15th January 2007, 09:03 PM
I got into the cards and games when they first began. Here are my rare-holographic cards: Charizard, Venusaur, Dark Blastoise, Typhlosion, Alakazam, Gyarados, 1st edition fossil Articuno, Raichu, 2nd Base Nidoqueen and Nidoking and Pidgeot, Chansey, 1st edition fossil Lapras, Dark Raichu (for some reason its card #83 out of 82), and a white diamond japanese Chansey. I don't know what's special about the white diamond in the bottom corner instead of a regular black diamond. I was so happy when I got my Charizard. That was the crowning achievement everybody wanted back in the day.

cheat-master30
15th January 2007, 09:07 PM
I really cannot read out all those I had back then. Some include:

Shining Steelix (3 star rare)

Celebi

Gyrados (Gym leader one)

Dragonite

Lt Surge's Raichu (English and Japanese versions)

Giovani's Persian

and many others. An interesting one was the one 'Brock's Vulpix' because it was a promo card free with a magazine. Still, I must have had a ton of shiny cards there in that folder.

benoit489
15th January 2007, 09:14 PM
3 star rare? What set was that in? I only went up to the very beginning of the Johto pokemon cards and then I quit.

cheat-master30
15th January 2007, 09:16 PM
Not sure what set, but ones with 'Shining' in their names had it. They were mega rare.

NintenDan
16th January 2007, 04:45 AM
I used to collect the Jungle set or something. But I think they were fake cards because there were 20 all tied in a rubber bandand were cheap. It was a bit of cardboard woith a sticker on!

cheat-master30
16th January 2007, 12:09 PM
Show a picture and I can tell. It's difficult to light test a holographic card though, and Japanese karts fail it whether real or fake I read.

NintenDan
17th January 2007, 02:33 AM
Okay then. It doesn't matter though. You know what I REALLY HATED IN THE ENTIRE WORLD though?!?! Stupid kids at school with their "Yu-Gi-Oh" cards, and then there's this massive debate over wether or not some card is fake!! And one kid brought a REAL LIFE safe to school with his "most prized possesion" which was some dragon. It's a card, damnit!!

cheat-master30
17th January 2007, 05:03 PM
Wait, you mean bringing an actual metal safe with lock on the door? If so, I heard of nothing that extreme. As for fake cards... it's because collectable cards can be collectors items and have value apparently. Seriously, you can buy rare cards for games like Pokemon in shops.

NintenDan
19th January 2007, 05:24 AM
Yeah, the whole real safe thing. But that kid didn't ave too many friends, (that I know of) so I think It was an attempt to look cool...

I don't have any rare cards. Dang...

cheat-master30
19th January 2007, 11:28 AM
Huh? You did not get any holographic ones or you did not collect the cards? if two, then that is okay, but if the first, your luck is pretty bad.

NintenDan
20th January 2007, 04:55 AM
As I said, I'm pretty sure I bought counterfeit cards or something...

cheat-master30
20th January 2007, 06:23 PM
How are you so sure of that? You could just be exagerrating.

benoit489
20th January 2007, 08:59 PM
I remember my first trade, that's how wrapped up in the craze I was.

I traded my Charmeleon for a Jynx. Best trade I ever made.

cheat-master30
20th January 2007, 09:32 PM
Did you not trade a different Pokemon for one in game? You could have got it from an in-game trade, and you lost the chance to get a Charizard? Just saying.

That was a card trade.

Oh, okay. Just got confused there.

NintenDan
22nd January 2007, 07:33 AM
Heh, heh. That's funny. I like the games a bit better than cards.

I played Pokemon Stadium a lot, and got up to the Mewtwo part.

cheat-master30
22nd January 2007, 05:38 PM
I beat that, but afterwards battles were too annoying to put up with.

NintenDan
23rd January 2007, 09:50 AM
I agree! They were frustrating for me, and I got really annoyed. So I stopped playing that. But the Dodrio option for the Gameboy games was a nice addition!

cheat-master30
23rd January 2007, 01:08 PM
Yeah, being able to play it at double and triple game speed was quite useful for speed playing the game.

benoit489
24th January 2007, 01:53 AM
I thought Pokemon Snap was great. A lot of interaction with the pokemon made it cool. I remember watching Charmanders dance, Magmars fight, and Muks and Grimers sitting in the cave.

NintenDan
24th January 2007, 08:48 AM
I never owned it, but played it in a store or something. They say when you hit a Charmeleon with an apple, it'll fall into the lava and become a Charizard, or so I here...

Also, the Dodrio thing was perfect for creating the ulitmate team with the duplicate item trick! And for catching Mew, and speeding through battles with ease!

cheat-master30
24th January 2007, 04:34 PM
The higher speeds would have made getting through long parts of the game with lots of walking a lot quicker for sure. And if you need to get through some battles in mega quick time.

benoit489
24th January 2007, 08:43 PM
What's this Dodrio thing you two are talking about?

cheat-master30
24th January 2007, 08:57 PM
In Pokemon Stadium, if you beat the tournaments you get to play the game at double (Doduo mode) or Triple (Dodrio mode) game speed when playing your handheld game through Pokemon Stadium.

cheat-master30
15th May 2007, 09:27 PM
I'm not sure if that's possible (Mewtwo is, Mew doesn't seem to be). Note only Mew is impossible, as you can actually get level 255 Mewtwo's with the Cinnabar Island glitch then trade them to the future games I think.

kingbooforums
28th May 2007, 09:38 PM
no he has a gameshark XD

cheat-master30
28th May 2007, 10:04 PM
Okay, now that wouldn't surprise me, although I have not heard of a level editing code (to change a pokemon's level).
