From the IGN Transcript, as well as some stuff that was said in Official Nintendo Magazine's first review of the game, some points he mentions about the game are as follows:

There are stars on the title screen again. Remember Super Mario Advance had those? Yeah, you got them in that series, and in the Yoshi's Island series for completing different things. He says that you get one of these for beating the game without letting a single demo play block appear.

You can apparently spit out characters at enemies with Yoshi, and you start getting lives if they don't hit the ground. According to IGN, poor Luigi was the whipping boy in this video demonstration. Yes Luigi, you're officially enrolled as 'ammunition'.

There's apparently an area based on Mario Bros. I think he literally means that arcade game where you have to flip over enemies and such like.

As said on the forums here, he had an interest in allowing players to design their own Mario levels at some point in the future.

One of the levels is supposedly a parody of Super Mario Bros 1-1. Actually, damn it. There I was thinking Nintendo was original, yet everyone and their dog has remade that level in fan games and ROM hacks. Ah well, count that as probably about the fourth official Mario reference to said level.

He also mentions, as I've noted on this site before, that the final boss is a parody of a boss from another Mario game. Might be a parody of the Koopa Clown Car version of the Bowser boss battle from Super Mario World, if the art is anything to go by, although I personally have minor hopes it'll be something even greater, like a parody of the final boss in Yoshi's Island. Heck... a parody of one of the RPG bosses may been even better...

But still, it sounds good. Especially as it's not merely a straight parody, but also in some senses a new boss battle in the design.

In case you obviously didn't get this part, it's not a trimmed down multiplayer game, but a full new Mario game. As in, eight worlds.

You also get an option after the Super Guide is over, if of course you're pathetic enough to use it whether you want to start the level for yourself over from the beginning.

Coin mode uses all the levels from the story mode plus five unique Coin Battle levels. Sounds fairly good, it's not limited like New Super Mario Bros and it's horrible excuse for a 'multiplayer' mode.

Miyamoto also interestingly noted that he wants to please fans by bringing back their favourite Mario game elements, I'd assume this being partly why things such as airships made it into the game this time.

As for the Official Nintendo Magazine review, well, there's some new interesting information there too. Apparently, the POW Block, will not merely stun/kill all enemies on screen, but knock all coins to the ground, including Star Coins. That sounds like a way to get coins from way off the top of the screen to me.

The Penguin Suit has the increased swimming abilities of the Frog Suit and Blue Shell when in water.

You can chuck frozen enemies to kill other enemies.

The two matching cards mini game from Super Mario Bros 3 returns.

Heck, you apparently hear things such as 1 up and power up noises through the Wii remote as you play. Although for the love of... I hope this is nowhere near as annoying as the constant grunts and voice effects in Mario Kart Wii.

Sadly, they did ALSO mention that you get off Yoshi at the end of the level, which means you can only get Yoshi in certain levels. This as you may have guessed, is not a good thing. Although it's a very conveniant way for Nintendo not to let him into Fortresses, Castles and Ghost Houses.

The magazine also mentions that there's an airship on the world map, which may bring to mind Super Mario Bros 3 airship levels. Another interesting point are the supposed unlockables/extras, apparently got for beating the 'epic final boss' and apparently a lot more worthwhile than the crappy screen wallpapers the DS version had. Sadly, they never got around to mentioning WHAT these things were. Although I know demo movies are some unlockables.

Finally, they gave it 96%. Yay. What you may take from that rating varies. Of course, them being a more than somewhat biased Nintendo publication, they gave the DS New Super Mario Bros a similar score as well, so I'm not sure whether to be excited or slightly worried.
