Before we start, look carefully at today's date. It is the second of Novemember 2009. Just the second. Then look on a calendar for the date that Christmas Day falls on. That's the 25th of the December. There is currently a month and 23 days worth of a gap between these dates, and it's near enough two months.

Well, can you please tell me, for the love of... what the hell is the point of advertising Christmas stuff over a month in advance? Heck, I know one company that was advertising it back before halloween. There is no bloody practical reason to put Christmas lights up about now, since they're plain early/wrong. Don't even start with the Christmas advertising yet, because half a dozen anticipated products will be out long after this date... you know, maybe a week or two before Christmas actually occurs? I do not need to go down the high street and see all these Christmas decorations and at this rate, people singing Christmas carols damnit!

Similarly, the year is not just two months long. There are seasons called 'Spring' and 'Autumn' as well as 'Summer' and 'Winter' you know. There's no freaking need to advertise things a whole season early. Nor is there a reason to, in about June advertise deals on school related stuff like uniforms. Not that I actually go to school any more, but these advertisers really underestimate the length of the summer holiday here...

So, anyone else getting sick of everyone talking about/advertising Christmas way, way earlier than it's even remotely practical?

cheat? Ever seen the "Studio Christmas Book" advert? They were advertising that way back in about April.
Infact, I'll be honest... I've actually seen adverts where they say "And have a cost-free Christmas 2010". I'm like ... wait, you're advertising something for Christmas SO early, it's before the previous Christmas? Well... my first cousin once removed was 4 on November 3. But why don't we get her something for her 6th birthday? Sure it's a "little" early, but it's no earlier than advertising something relating to Christmas 2010 BEFORE Christmas 2009. (They actually advertised something for this years Christmas BEFORE Christmas LAST year).

TBQH... I think Christmassy stuff should start maybe at the earliest around the latter part of November. Say, the last week or so (November 20?). The music channels (at least ones I have on Virgin Media) start playing "Christmas" songs as early as November 23, I think. Is THAT acceptable?

So, yeah... November 20, I think is early enough... and that's the November 20 the same year, NOT November 20, 2008.
