Before we start, look carefully at today's date. It is the second of Novemember 2009. Just the second. Then look on a calendar for the date that Christmas Day falls on. That's the 25th of the December. There is currently a month and 23 days worth of a gap between these dates, and it's near enough two months.
Well, can you please tell me, for the love of... what the hell is the point of advertising Christmas stuff over a month in advance? Heck, I know one company that was advertising it back before halloween. There is no bloody practical reason to put Christmas lights up about now, since they're plain early/wrong. Don't even start with the Christmas advertising yet, because half a dozen anticipated products will be out long after this date... you know, maybe a week or two before Christmas actually occurs? I do not need to go down the high street and see all these Christmas decorations and at this rate, people singing Christmas carols damnit! Similarly, the year is not just two months long. There are seasons called 'Spring' and 'Autumn' as well as 'Summer' and 'Winter' you know. There's no freaking need to advertise things a whole season early. Nor is there a reason to, in about June advertise deals on school related stuff like uniforms. Not that I actually go to school any more, but these advertisers really underestimate the length of the summer holiday here... So, anyone else getting sick of everyone talking about/advertising Christmas way, way earlier than it's even remotely practical? More... This is not a user, but the poster for the DSU Blog debates. |

Christmas time really only starts after Thanksgiving.

Fair enough. Although I still think that's a bit early personally. Maybe December would be a good starting point.

You often see people first put up their Christmas lights right after Thanksgiving. That and the beginning of December are the most common times here, as I've seen.

As Nick mentioned, I most often see people get ready for Christmas during the beginning of December. When I used to watch television, I noticed that Christmas programming began on November 29 (here in America at least). The song Vigilante by Frank Klepacki: |
