So this year, Thanksgiving in US is November 26, and was October 12 for Canada (2nd Monday in October).
Anyway, is November 26 an acceptable "not too early" date to start? It's only 4 weeks + 1 day before. Oh yeah, and it's only 51 days from now. MKWii December 2009 Competition #2  TBA (it better be good <_<). 4000 members expected September 29, 2010 3114 members expected at the end of this month 3205 members expected at the end of 2009

The only Christmas-related commercials I've noticed are ones for Disneyland, in its Christmas mode (which is really cool, I've been there when it's like that). Nothing else, really.
