Action Replay DS Horror Stories

Throughout the site's history, there have been posts about broken versions of the Action Replay, but as seen below, one particular one seems to very much hit hard. That is the loss of all codes on the device and having to gather them all up, and sometimes even loss of the ability to connect to the computer to download code lists to the console!

My Story

Now although a lot of people claim that you lose codes from having too many on the device, I had just cleared out like... twenty games of not needed codes, and then it still happened. I found there were no options to select a code, so then edited one and it turned out the code was blank! Every code became like this, just a bunch of hollow names stored in memory that had no effect. I downloaded some subscriptions. Said it worked, but the same happened again!

Since then though, I have deleted all but four games and go off of a cut down subscription for each of them, reducing the list to basically Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros.

Nickyivyca's Broken Action Replay DS Story

One day I had put some new custom level codes into my XML document for SM64DS. I checked the document by opening it with Internet Explorer and it had no errors. I then connected up my DS (it wasn't broken then) and loaded the codes onto it with my USB cable. I then looked at my DS' codes through the manager, but some of the custom levels were missing. So I reloaded the codes, and I still had the same problem. So I checked to make sure that AR Code Manager approved the codes. When I opened up one of the missing codes and clicked OK, it didn't say "There is something wrong with the codes you've entered." SO I was confused.

Then I disconnected the cable and tried loading the codelist on the DS. I did this, and when I looked in the folder where they were stored, there they were! I turned on one of them and loaded my game. However, no custom level was loaded. I tried again with the same results. I then turned it off and reset my AR. I then reloaded all of the codes I had on it before. I got the same results and was annoyed, so I told my dad and I sent Datel an email to support on the subject.

The email I received (or my dad received, because it was sent from his address) told us about using Datel's codes only, and pretty much all. So it was pretty much useless.

A few weekends later I came up with an idea: Take out all of the character replacement codes and make a separate codelist for them, which I did. I put the movement codes, character replacement codes, and warp codes in one, and all codes that didn't pertain only to character replacement (Movement and replacement codes)in the other. Due to my DS being broken, I don't know if this works. The next time my friend comes over to my house with his DS, I want to try this out.
