Mysteries of the Mansion Part 1
The darkness was drawing near, and bolts of lightning were striking down from the murky skies. The scene was in the dark, twisted forest near where Luigi would enter his mansion in about 400 years time, and the same dark, evil crows were sitting in the trees. A horse drawn carriage was making its way through the forest, and inside was a very strange seen. This was what was happening in the Mushroom Kingdom, about 3rd October 1755.
There was the sound of faint speaking inside the carriage as it went through the dreary, forest, and a wolf was heard, howling at the moon in the far distance, as if waiting for its next lunch to ride through the eerie place.
Inside the carriage, an elderly man was speaking to someone he was taking to the new house within in the forest, as then, normal civilisation was in a state of turmoil, and many people had decided to move further away, to escape the pending scenario.
“So you be travelling to this house all the way out here then?” asked the driver, to his passenger, a wealthy, but eccentric baron.
“Yes, as this place is meant to be the perfect retreat from the normal world, away from the rest of civilisation, and an ideal place to sit and read my large collection of books, and watch the stars”.
“But this place has been known for plenty of strange happenings. Normal people don’t go anywhere near these woods, let alone live in any accommodation which is deep within the murky sea of trees”
The richer baron, suddenly just said how he was not willing to lose this valuable property to anyone else, and how it looked like the perfect place to move away to, with the spacious interior, large library area, and labyrinthine basement going far underneath the house and the nearby area.
“Well, suit yourself, but don’t say you weren’t warned of the terrible dangers of the area when you end up in extreme peril” answered the driver of the carriage to his richer, but stubborn passenger.
The road ahead was winding through the forest, to the left, right, up hills and through giant tunnels. The vehicle moved through dead grassland, calm lakes and past many remains of once existent towns and villages, making it’s way to it’s destination under the full moon. At this point, even the horse was starting to get scared of the area, as many swoop bats flew overhead, and various ghostly spirits were seen wandering the woods, as though lost and tired. The journey was hazardous, but the driver was determined to get his client to the bought house, through any weather, any place and any event that may occur on the way.
Finally, they drew to a sign. The sign on it said Darkmore Manor. The baron stepped out the carriage and after the paying the driver, slowly walked up to the cast iron gates. At this time, the horse and carriage left the area, slowly disappearing into the foggy darkness of the surrounding forest.
The rain was pouring down, and thunderstorms were occurring nearby at the time the baron decided to enter his new home. He slowly stepped forward, and carefully avoiding the puddles that were forming everywhere, moved along the path into the Mansion front garden. In the background, the crows seemed to be saying something, how this event will turn out in total disaster, in due time, nothing good will come of the mansion.
As the man muttered, and walked up the path to the mansion, through the all stone garden stretching right around his estate, he looked at the area thoroughly. There were bats high and far in the distance, the moon was at its highest and you could hear the scuttling of the spiders in the far distance, which in these regions, seemed to grow to about 4ft in length, and eat whole small animals. All this time, there was an owl making a noise in one of the old and battered trees, and various rats moved around the area, coming from various holes in the walls of the battered old shed, to the left of the mansion front garden.
As he walked closer, he could see that the person who sold this place had been preparing for the next person to live there, as there were candles on ledges near each door, and a small sign which said: ‘Welcome to Darkmore Manor. Please enjoy your new home. It was too much bother for me to keep this place for myself to live, and even tougher to keep it in good condition. I hope you have better luck than I did before Signed Previous house owner’He slowly turned the handle on the door to open it. The door itself was extremely old and fragile, and there was much dust on all parts of the door. It creaked open and the inside lay in full view.
“Right” he thought to himself. “I’m going to go to the library and then see around this place”. So he decided to go upstairs to the library. On entry, one of the windows got sent flying open, and he sharply looked to the window. A swoop bat was there, so he slammed shut the window at the bat, and went off to look at the rest of the place. The front left room had a piano, a dining table, and a bookcase, as well as some chairs and pots lying around. The back room had a Large Painting, bookcases and a set of ornamental chairs, with a coffee table and marvellous chandelier. The third room was just an empty store room, which had many, many small insects roaming the room, and had many mice living in the area. He decided to take a short trip to the final rooms on the ground floor. The first had a long bridge above a deep looking pit of darkness, and the room itself looked like it was going to fall into the basement, while the final room had a pretty unsteady looking set of shelves on the wall…
Suddenly, there was a massive crash. The shelves had just fallen right off the fixtures to the wall, and hit the floor in the current room. The floor then started going mental, cracks appeared everywhere and suddenly, half the floor simply sunk down, and fell, for many, many, many metres into the basement, shattering on the floor. The room was now left with the tell tale hole in the middle of the room, and a very deep pit to the basement awaited. Slowly, but great care, the new owner of this house, backed away towards the door, and entered the main lobby on the ground floor…
Back in the lobby room, the count decided to stop worrying about the state of his newly acquired mansion and go to sleep for the night. Strolling calmly upstairs to the dinghy rooms on the middle floor, he went to the second door on the right. A dim light entered his eyes, as he entered the dimly lit room. There was the only four poster bed in the mansion in this room, and a store room to the side of it, filled with battered crates, shelves and old furniture. He went to sleep extremely quickly, not knowing the events which would unfold the next morning.
The sun was rising, and it was a beautiful day. Well the baron may have thought that, but anyone who was actually outside in the area at this time would certainly say otherwise. The weather was a mix of the typical rain storms that were commonly to the area, and fog everywhere, accompanied by the dim light of the sun on a dark blue sky, partially blocked out by the huge iron fencing and tall, near dead trees.
As he woke up, and rose slowly out of his luxurious rest, the baron, whose name was Mr Bleakly, went to the most kitchen like room to see what was happening recently. The radio suddenly had a weather forecast style announcement, in a very typical old fashioned voice:
“Welcome to the Local Weather program. The weather in most regions now is extremely mild with varying temperatures of about 20 degrees Celsius in most parts. The only exceptions are the snow covered regions where either world 5 or world 6 is and the darker forests among the North East of the kingdom where the temperature is about 5 degrees Celsius of lower. You have been warned if you live anywhere near those dark forest regions that lightning storms are expected to occur shortly, so this would not be a good time to try any major event, or use a cape.’
“I wonder if the coach that brought me here has actually brought my trusty pet guard dog by now?” thought Mr Bleakly. However, after waiting by the mansion gate for about two hours, there was no sign of the driver who had brought him here, or the dog, and Mr Bleakly wondered where the driver was by now, and whether he had forgot that he was supposed to return the next day with many important possessions of the barons.
With no luck ahead, Mr Bleakly went right back to the mansion. He was about to just have a cup of tea when the radio blared out an important announcement which made his worst fears come true:
“We interrupt this program for an urgent announcement. A local person from a village deep in the local area have found an empty coach with a few objects of immense value in and a pet dog which had been chained up inside. The dog looks very much like the general Chain Chomp species, which is known to be quite vicious and is kept to keep away intruders from areas of value. However, the driver is nowhere to be seen, and it looks like the vehicle has been attacked by some kind of local animal, which may be terrorising the local area. Therefore, all residents out of the two or three that live in houses in that forest are urged to stay indoors and report anything suspicious seen moving around the area to the local authorities, which after their track record, don’t seem to help much at all’.
Annoyed by the lack of his possessions, Mr Bleakly took a tour around the mansion back garden. There were many spiders moving around the area, up to four foot in size, and the same cast iron fences all down the side. However, this is where the story is cut off for about 20 years, and by then the main character here had passed away. The next chapter is about the next inhabitants of the mansion, and how the ghostly enemies that are in present in the videogame version came to be…
