This console was Nintendo's second console to play 3D games after the N64, and has some absolutely brilliant games. These include Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario 2. And this page will cover all the best ones!

Luigi's Mansion

Since the launch of the console wasn't accompanied by a traditional Mario game, this was like it. The game story was that Luigi won a mansion in a contest (he didn't enter the contest) and then he told Mario. When he arrived to meet Mario there, no one was there and he saw a floating key. The key fell and when he used it to open a door, a ghost appeared and attacked him. A strange man with a Hoover appeared and captured the ghost. The man was Professor Gadd, who showed him how to catch ghosts and gave him the device, called the Poltergust 3000. Luigi then set off to rescue his brother from the army of ghosts within!

Using the device is like fishing, where you have to pull it in the other direction to suck in the ghost. The health will go down then when it reaches zero, the ghost is forced into the machine.

There are also Portrait ghosts with high HP and you must solve puzzles to make them catchable. After each area, a boss will appear and you must be the boss to save the game and see your treasure added up.

Of course, it all turns out to be a plot by the evil King boo to capture Mario in revenge and try to imprison the two brothers in paintings.

Super Smash Bros Melee

This is a sequel to a major fighting game. Here, Nintendo characters try to beat each other up in arenas, and you have to defeat your rivals to win. There are modes like Classic, Adventure and Event Match, and you have to beat the Master Hand.

There are also contest modes like the Home Run Contest, Break the Targets and Multi-Man Melee.

There are also over 290 different trophies to collect, and I have the lot (thanks to cheating to get exclusive Japan only ones). The rare ones though are:

Mario and Yoshi

Unmasked Samus

and the Diskun Trophy as they are some of the toughest to unlock.

The characters are many, and include Mario, Link, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud, Bowser, Pikachu, Ness, The Ice Climbers, Zelda, Princess Peach and many more. There are also unlockables such as Luigi, Falco, Marth and Mr Game and Watch.

Super Mario Sunshine

This game is the second major Mario 3D platform game, and the storyline goes something like this. Mario, Princess Peach and Toadsworth go on holiday to Isle Delfino (means Dolphin Island in Italian). When they are there, Peach notices a strange figure and there is graffiti all over the place. Mario goes to clean it up only to be arrested by the police who say Mario is the culprit! Mario then has to clean up the island and stop the impostor who later decides to kidnap Princess Peach.

The main thing the game revolves around is a water spraying device called the FLUDD which allows Mario to spray water, hover, shoot high into the air and run really fast with the turbo nozzle. He is collecting the shine sprites which were also stolen.

Mario Kart Double Dash

The Gamecube Instalment of the Mario Kart series has a new twist, the idea being that two racers can race in each kart rather than one, with the front character driving and the other throwing items.

There are also more characters, which include Diddy Kong, Baby Mario, Princess Daisy, Waluigi, Bowser Junior and King Boo. There are also now special items which include a chain chomp, a giant banana, fireballs and bob-ombs.

The courses are more detailed than before, and the AI of the computer opponents seems smarter. There are also now Staff Ghosts for each track in the game, and a new mode where two players can ride in the same kart in Versus, Grand Prix or Battle Modes.

The game seems to be programmed more about chaos, with the tracks trying to restrict you to the main road, by stopping you going too far out of bounds. There was a shortcut because of this though, and future Mario Kart games have been more lenient about this.

Paper Mario 2

This game is an RPG type game for the Gamecube, which is rare in it itself and is also a massive game. The game storyline is that Peach arrived at Rogueport on holiday and bought a treasure map. She asked Mario to come then was kidnapped by an evil group who want to destroy the world known as the X-Nauts. Mario must collect the Crystal stars and stop the X-Nauts getting them before the Thousand Year door is opened and a 1000 year old demon is released which would cause the world to end.

The way the game works is relatively similar to Mario and Luigi, Super Star Saga, where you can hit enemies outside of battle to get the first strike and attacks aren't just selecting from menus, but also using button commands for more damage.

The variety of area is huge, from the starting area, to the Great Tree, to Glizville, to Twilight Town, to Keelhaul Island, to Poshley Heights to Fahr Outpost and the Moon base (yes you do get to visit outer space in this game).

The range of enemies is also huge, with the tattle book potentially having hundreds of entries in it.

But the title is also explanative of how the game worls and puzzles are solved. This is because, with the R button and various uses of the control stick, Mario can do many moves using his paper form, like becoming a Paper plane or boat. There are also partners which help Mario and their special abilities are also needed for puzzles in game
