Mario Kart Wii Glitches

Ah yes, glitches and tricks, the one part this site is known, loved and hated for. Well, I guess it's time to post all the neat glitches and tricks I've either found or seen in videos for Mario kart Wii, so keep reading for the tricks that will help you beat the game.

Shortcuts

Or useful means to save time that likely weren't Nintendo's original intention...

Mushroom Gorge

Gorge Jump

You can use a mushroom and a well aimed jump to get over the gorge at the end of the level.

Ultra Shortcut 1

Use a mushroom and trick from one of the mushrooms at the start towards the mountain, and hold up and the side to move around the wall. You can supposedly land in front of the cave exit and go through the finish line with it counting a lap.

Ultra Shortcut 2

You can do the same and fall into the gorge. Get put in front of the cave and the lap will also count.

Minor Shortcut

At the bridge, mushroom and trick off the boost and you can jump the next mushroom and save some time.

Toad's Factory

Pond Jump

At the end of the level, aim to the right, mushroom boost and trick off the bumps to hop the fence and pond, landing the other side.

Maple Treeway

Supposed Lakiu Shortcut

According to a video on Youtube, there is a place where you can you fall off the spiral log and get placed before the rope bridge after the halfpipe. I don't understand the exact details myself.

Grumble Volcano

Volcano Jump

After the tunnel area, get onto the higher area of ground, then look to the right. Aim for the ledge on a volcano in the lava, use the mushroom and jump, and you can bounce of the ledge and land down on the other side. The lap counts, but this shortcut has been beaten by an even better one.

Ultra Shortcut

This is the one, the sub 1 minute uber trick! And there are two ways, the easy way, and the hard way.

For method one, I cannot explain. Follow this video, and keep trying:

For the easier way, fall off the track behind the start line, and line up towards the rock near the ramp. Do a standstill mini turbo and trick off the ramp onto the rock, and do the shortcut like the other method. Wheelie a bit before the ramp if possible. Oh, and the checkpoints:

  • Ridge past the start line
  • Ridge towards the track area.

You also need to be not close to the rock. Oh, and hurry up, it sinks after about a minute.

Note: You can do this in 100cc with the Bullet Bike, Mach Bike and Torpedo.

Rainbow Road

After the holes in the track, use a mushroom and boost across the bend ahead.

Bowser Castle 3

Uber Shortcut

There's a video tutorial online, but basically, near the end of the area with the ramps, aim towards the track in the distance and jump when you hit the ramp to hopefully cross the lava.

Wario's Gold Mine

Uber Shortcut

Again, I'll provide a video I found on Youtube of the glitch, because my description is likely going to be pretty bad without any form of visual aid. But never the less. You go forward across the start line, turn around, and aim towards the pipes under the track behind the start line. You then use a mushroom and jump off the edge towards the pipes. Aim right (landing on one of the pipes for a split second will usually activate the correct checkpoint), and you'll get put back quite a way, just after the cave. Turn back around, go partly into the cave, hit the wall to the right of the cave and follow the left side of the path to the start/finish line, where the lap should count. The video is way better at explaining.

Block Plaza (February 2009 competition version)

Uber Shortcut

See video by GymmoNL, who's apparently the finder of the shortcut for instructions:

Character Duplication Glitches

The same character glitch with fifty million weird side effects.

How to use the same character for multiple players

To use the same character for multiple people in a local multiplayer match, what you need to do is first get one person to select them and press A, then press B to go back, and then make person one move the cursor off the character. Make person two select them, and press A, then press B again. Go back and both should have the cursor set to the same character. Press A for both, and repeat for three or four players using the same character.

Interesting Side Effects

The kart select screen goes to hell, and the position of player 1 depends on player 2's kart choice, or for more players, all players character position depends on exactly one person's kart choice. So if you make player 2 choose a bike and player 2 a kart, the character could be standing in a go kart while for the other way around they could be sitting awkwardly on a bike. Some funny stuff:

King Boo can be made to have a form of legs depending on player 2's kart choice.

You can show Peach, Daisy or Rosalina in their biker outfit in a kart or vice versa, but only on the select screens.

After one race, all players karts and bikes except player 1 are invisible.

Riding Walls

Just as it says on the tin. How to ride walls for shell immunity.

Bowser Castle 3

Use the ramps near the lava and aim for the wall to land on it. You can also then jump from the wall to the main path to the right ahead, and ride the wall to dodge red shells.

Bowser's Castle

At the drawbridge, aim to the left or right and you can land on the wall to the side of the area ahead.

You can also do this near the spinning fire wheel past the row of three Thwomps to land on a wall.

Or via a mushroom from the lava geyser spouts near the end to another wall.

N64 Bowser's Castle

After the first jump over lava across the castle roof, you can go to the right and land on the wall, then follow it to the right of the tower ahead to save time. This can again, unlike what Gamefaqs may say be attempted with any bike or kart.

Dodging Blue Shells

How to dodge the blue missile of doom that everyone fears and hates.

With a Mushroom

Use the Mushroom when it appears overhead to boost out of it's blast radius

With a Launcher

In DK Summit, Maple Treeway, Rainbow Road, DK's Jungle Parkway and DK Mountain, enter the cannon or launcher as it's following, about to hit or you can hear it to dodge the blue shell.

With an Item

A Blue Shell can be totally avoided/nullified/beaten with a Star, Mega Mushroom or Bullet Bill.

Other stuff

The cool, the not so cool, the totally pointless and minor...

Not Out of Bounds

To drive around on an out of bounds area forever, go to Bowser's Castle then use the boost ramp and aim for the small platforms to the left and right of the bridge. If your angle is just right (may need some testing), you can drive forward or stay still forever into the wall without ever being put back on the track by Lakitu. Turn and it counts as out of bounds and you end up on the track by Lakitu.

Atop the Halfpipe

In the hall with the Mecha Bowser, use the ramp before the halfpipe and aim ontop of the sides, near the chains. You can land and drive on the top of the halfpipe forever.

Drive through a tree

In Maple Treeway, go back from the start and look for the second tree going backwards near a fence and a pond to your right (looking backwards towards the net). With a kart, go between the tree and the fence, get the angle right and drive forward to end up inside the tree.

Land on a fence

If you are lucky, you can boost at the same area and land ontop of the wooden fence for a short time.

Jump the Mall Bridge

In Coconut Mall, past the shop shortcut, use a mushroom and then trick of the fountain towards the escalators leading forward. You can sometimes jump or land on top of the overhanging second floor section above the escalators.

Out of bounds in the mall

You can also aim to the right and left to fall through a gap to the floor below which counts as out of bounds.

Bounce off a truck

In Moonview Highway, use a mushroom off the side of the banks when a truck goes by, and try and land on the roof. You'll either bounce about ten feet off it and fly forward, or bounce up in a painful somersault as if you got hit from the side.

Through a Vehicle

Also in Moonview Highway, you can go right through a vehicle without being hurt while recovering from a hit or using the POW Block dodge trick at the right time.

Did Lakitu screw up?

In Wario's Gold Mine, if you boost off the edge of the doorway to the cave to the left with a mushroom, you get put down by Lakitu just inside the cave by the bats. Which is odd, because most areas put you down by the halfpipe type area.

Follow the Mine Carts

You can go backwards after the ramp and along the path the mine carts go along in the same level as above, and it actually goes back quite a way. You can also sometimes jump to an earlier part of the level from there.

Over the Top!

In Mushroom Gorge, use the same trick as for the ultra shortcut, at the same location and keep holding up to make the bike go up the wall. You will eventually fall through the grass and into the cave with the mushrooms.

Out of Bounds

You can use the same trick to fall into a wall and out the level.

Over the Wall

Aim to the right and towards the sole mushroom just after a wooden bridge. You can then boost and trick off it to climb up the wall like the shortcut one, and sometimes actually over it to the path with the boosters on the floor.

Jump the deep water

In Peach Beach, go to the 'shortcut' ramp and wait until the water is shallow. Then use a mushroom and trick off it to the right, and you can jump the dark water and land safely in the shallow stuff on the other side.

Dock and Alley Shortcut in One

In Delfino Square, use a mushroom then trick off the ramp for the dock shortcut while aiming for the alleyway one. You can actually jump right over the dock and land on the pavement the other side right before the alleyway.
