New Super Mario Bros Characters

Although New Super Mario Bros is not really a story heavy game, there are still quite a few interesting characters present, many of which obviously can't count under enemies or bosses because they're on the side of good. Hence DS Ultimate brings you the lowdown on everyone in New Super Mario Bros.

Friendly Characters and Heroes

Mario

The main hero of the Mario series, and the main playable character in the game, he was taking a walk through the Mushroom Kingdom with Peach when, after a distraction by Lakithunder, Peach was kidnapped by Bowser Jr. Being a pure of heart hero and one of the Star Children (see Yoshi's Island DS and Mario and Luigi Partners in Time), he gave chase and set off to rescue Peach from Bowser and Bowser Jr, clad as usual in his red hat, shirt and blue dungarees.

Luigi

Mario's younger brother, he appears as a secret playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Dressed all in his trademark green and blue outfit, he first shows up in the chase scenario at the start (sometimes), and goes off on the same adventure as Mario, for reasons unknown.

Princess Peach

The standard damsel in distress of the Mario series and it's spinoffs, she's captured when walking with Mario by the evil Bowser Jr, and eventually held prisoner in Bowser's Castle, all the way off in Dark Land at the other end of the map. She rewards Mario with a kiss when rescued.

Toadsworth

Peach's advisor and new manager of the Toad Houses, he's set up an array of small shops where he tries to give Mario free items and extra lives for his adventure.

Villains

Bowser

The main series threat since Super Mario Bros on the NES, and Mario's self proclaimed arch nemesis, Bowser is a semi mysterious threat in New Super Mario Bros, possibly being the one who told Bowser Jr to capture Princess Peach, and being fought in the first and final world castles.

Bowser Jr

One of Bowser's eight children, Bowser Jr captures Princess Peach in the intro, and escapes with her after every tower and castle until the final battle. He's an annoying brat found as the perennial recurring boss in the tower levels.
