Rumours
There are sections for Mario games, Legend of Zelda games, Pokemon games and many, many more.
The Mario Rumours
Luigi in Super Mario 64
The rumour here, is that after completing a long and arduous set of tasks, you will unlock Luigi as a playable character. The rumours either involve collecting coins, entering a cave with Luigi inside, beating a Hammer Bro behind the waterfall or getting a secret 121st star.
The Fake Proof
There are many sites with fake proof, but this video is pretty bad for giving fake rumours: Fake Luigi VideoThis video supposedly shows Luigi in Super Mario 64. The video is fake though, and the guy who made the video is a master hacker.
Conclusion
After much research and hacking, fans can conclusively say Luigi is nowhere to be seen in Super Mario 64.
Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS
Okay, many sites have started now saying Waluigi is in Super Mario 64 DS. The rumours are that by going through secret rooms and mazes, you can unlock Waluigi, the castle floods and that you get to fire lightning. Other rumours are that you have to beat a giant rabbit, or a giant piranha plant to get his key.
Fake Proof
The above picture, which someone submitted to 1up.com, supposedly shows Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS. I can tell however that it is a fake, because the poses look unatural and copied from Mario Tennis, while caps only appear on enemies which are possible to defeat.
I conclude this rumour is also fake.

Waluigi 'codes' in Mario 64 DS
A number of codes have been posted supposedly allowing you to play as Waluigi with an Action Replay, but none work. They were however:
121c345f 00000000
212345d0 00000000
b0000006 00000004
d2000000 00000000
This code is a junk code with no effect, and is totally invalid.
00000000 00009999
This code has no memory editing values, hence is also worthless. A video to show the non effects of it can be found at the link below:
Thanks to Darkspy for the video showing the invalid second code also does not work or have any effect.
Waluigi unlocked by beating Bowser Jr
Yes, a recent and already infamous rumour posted on our very own DS Ultimate forums, this rumour had a 50 star unlocked Star World and Bowser Jr having to be beaten to unlock a Waluigi who could use the spring jump. However, since the instructions were vague, he doesn't exist in the game data and that the method is proven false, I hereby declare it busted already (and the topic was already locked).
Marty in Mario Kart 64
A rumour started by the Mario Kart 64 Players Page, it is rumoured you can unlock Marty in Mario Kart 64 by some elaborate method, and he goes many times faster than other characters. By the way, Marty is the green Thwomp in the cage at Bowser's Castle.
Proof
Sadly, no proof was archived by any website, and there is none of Marty that I know of, as the Mario Kart 64.com topics were deleted.
I conclude Marty is not in Mario Kart 64.
Waluigi in Mario Kart Super Circuit
Sigh, another bad Waluigi rumour. This rumour is prevalent on many cheat sites, but since there is no proof that he is in the game, or any videos, it is pretty obvious that the rumour is fake. Other variations say you can unlock Koopa in Mario Kart Super Circuit.
Track Shaped like Mario
A one off rumour about Mario Kart Double Dash, it is rumoured that you can unlock this by beating every cup in every difficulty with every character. Alas, it did not spread far before it was trounced by good players, and this rumour is only here for archival purposes.
Retro Tracks in Mario Kart Double Dash
This other rumour which required you to beat all cups with all characters was shot down easily. Probably because it was just an April Fools Day Joke started by a major Mario site was Super Mario 128 Central one year.
Actual Joke article by Super Mario 128 Central
Rainbow Cup in Mario Kart DS
Okay, the rumours about the secret cup with four Rainbow Road courses were quickly spread when Mario Kart DS was released. The rumour was, by beating all 32 staff ghosts, the secret Rainbow Cup would become useable. This was then proven wrong by people who beat the ghosts.
Sometimes, it is taken even further and people even talk about things like a Hyrule Cup and all. This is also fake.
Rainbow Kart
After the Rainbow Cup, the rumours seemed to die down. Then came this. A Rainbow Kart rumour. The rumour of cause is fake, but it shows that this game has way too much fake information about it passed around.
Baby Mario
Another rumour for Mario Kart DS. You were supposed to unlock this character by beating all the cups as Mario. However, the rumour is proven fake as there are only 36 karts, and all karts would have meant being able to use his karts if they existing. Plus, the pictures were fake, including one of him in Double Dash pasted onto a picture of Mario Circuit, one of his head on Warios and another of him on the character select screen.
Fight Dark Samus
This rumour, was that by getting all 3 star ranks, you could somehow fight Dark Samus in mission mode. However, the picture was easily proven fake, with one hand of Eyerok being visible on the map screen.
Worming
Since the Mario Kart boards were dying, two Mario Kart Players Page veterans had a mean joke to play on Gamefaqs. They started a rumour that worming was possible in Mario Kart DS, and was faster than SSMT and PRB. However, I proved this wrong with this link that clearly shows Stelzig admitting worming was a fake rumour set up to annoy Gamefaqs board users.
You can unlock Goomba in Mario Kart DS
A troll called 0ne Wing said he unlocked Goomba. However, he never raced anyone from the board, nor has proof, so it is known to be false. It is even known if the guy really had the Mario Kart DS game.
Mario Mode in Luigis Mansion
I really don't know how this started, but someone said it was possible to unlock Mario mode in Luigis mansion, and manage to play as Mario. However, it was proven to be false, and now is used as a joke by many players.
Unlock Yoshi in Paper Mario 1
Another rumour started by Super Mario 128 Central, this was proven to be fake when they said 'April Fools Day' and admitted it was fake.
Fake Yoshi in Paper Mario article
Wario in New Super Mario Bros
All I know was that some websites must have tricked people into thinking you could unlock him, because someone asked at the Gamefaqs board. He only appears on the mini game screen where you select single player or VS, and then only his face does.
Princess Peach in New Super Mario Bros
Like Wario, this was asked about and shot down quickly enough. It was just another fake rumour that some idiots believed.
Platinum Stars in New Super Mario Bros Wii
Soon after the game was released, this silly rumour spread by a Japanese strategy guide to the game made it over to the rest of the world. The general idea was that your stars on the file select screen would turn platinum if you beat the entirety of New Super Mario Bros Wii without once dying. Now, the extent to which you had to beat the game was uncertain (some said it were visible if you got even just one star, some said you needed all five stars on the file select screen), but it eventually came to pass that the rumour was completely false.
Yoshi is in Super Mario Galaxy
Yet another April Fools Day joke by Super Mario 128 Central, the rumour had it that Yoshi was in a cameo role in Super Mario Galaxy. Indeed, quite the list of steps was posted to make this happen:
- Collect at least 60 stars and defeat Bowser once
- Go to Space Junk Galaxy, choose the secret star "Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance" (or the star for "Tarantox's Tangled Web" if not already completed)
- Feed the hungry Luma 50 star bits so it transforms into the Yoshi planet (this step is omitted if planet has already been revealed)
- Use the launch star, to launch to the Yoshi planet
- Defeat all the Goombas on this planet by stomping on them, but without touching the ground
- When the above step is completed, go to the nostrils of the Yoshi planet, they will breathe fire, use Mario's spin attack to diffuse the fire
- A Yoshi egg will appear on the nose, pick up the egg with Mario, and obtain the star
- A Yoshi sound will play, and Yoshi will now appear at the Comet Observatory
Go to Good Egg Galaxy, visit the Yoshi egg planet and shoot at least 5 star bits at each green spot on the egg planet
This is false simply because the site has now admitted it's false. No questions asked nor needed.
Super Mario Sunshine/64 New Play Control
Finally, SM 128C's 2009 rumour had the idea of the two games being rereleased in the New Play Control for Wii range. False, as always.
Mushroom Kingdom Hearts
Another EGM (sigh) rumour, the idea of a Mario and Kingdom Hearts crossover game called 'Mushroom Kingdom Hearts'. Yes, it sounds like a bad idea off the bat, albeit one all the forum fanboys would lap up, but again, it was merely a rumour, and it's false.

Other Secret Powers
Rumours existed of Ninja Mario, Fire Mario and... help me please, this is plain disgusting... Naked Mario in Super Mario 64. No, none of them exist in the game as it is, and I hope for the love of God no one makes the last with Toad's Tool. However, fans have kind of made the others in the form of hacking the game:
Frauber's Fire Mario code... cool. Heck, the Fireballs even EXPLODE as they hit an object and destroy it!
And Yoshielectron made a starman code. Yes, with real invincibility.
Super Mario RPG as fifth Super Mario Advance Game
No, it isn't, despite this going round from TUK at one time on Acmlm's Board:
Did you know that Super Mario Advance 5 is supposedly going to be Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars?
Yoshi's Story is not going to be part of the 'Super Mario Advance' Series at all, at least that's what a Nintendo mag said.
As far as I can know, there were no plans to make a fifth Super Mario Advance game. And considering the issues with rereleasing Super Mario RPG, it's unlikely this would have happened anyway. Similarly, no, Yoshi's Story was not going to be remade as Super Mario Advance 5 either.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Rumours
Get the triforce
This is probably the most famous rumour in the whole of Nintendo rumour history, and literally thousands of different ways have been suggested. These involve light temples, unicorn fountains, flying pink cows, Ganons Castle, the Deku Tree and The Temple of Time.
The normal rumours are easy to disprove. You can't drop a bomb in the centre of the lava in Ganon's Castle for one thing, you cannot enter the unicorn fountain and you cannot beat the running man (rumour 2). However, in the next paragraph, I talk about one fake rumour that took the Zelda community by storm!
Okay, after all this, someone contacted a Legend of Zelda fan site, and said they had reached the triforce, and had proof. This person went by the name of Ariana, and said something about playing a hidden song and going to the light temple. A million or so people then rushed to try the instructions in a vain hope of trying to get the triforce, and failed. More letters then came, and a secret song called the Overture of Sages was mentioned. After no one still had luck, much investigation into the credibility of the proof arose. People claimed the pictures were of an altered ROM of the game, people proved the pictures were photoshopped. Eventually, the creator of the rumour, came forward and admitted they were fake.
This site has much information on The rumours
You can beat the Running man!
This was also impossible. People had claimed you would get an item to go fast which would allow you to beat him, or would get something good after you did. However, it was proven false when someone used a Gameshark to get a time of zero seconds, and the running man somehow still got 1 second faster!
Running Man Revisited
And now someone on Youtube came up with a crappy rumour you can beat him by going back in time and waiting at the finish line for seven years after starting the race. Obviously, considering the game's technical limits and general design, this would be impossible, and his video looks fake as heck as it is:
El Puerco in Dampe's Grave, Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time
An odd rumour this, it was said that some mysterious beast stalked the maze of tunnels in the tomb. One guy said it a pig, another said it was an unloaded redead like thing. Thing is, it was never found, and so can be confined back to the history books.
Fire Sword
It was rumoured, after getting through the game without getting hit, and opening a specific chest which appeared in a certain location, you could get the mystical fire sword. This was proven to be false when no one got it, and no trace was found when the whole game was hacked recently. Same with the ice sword.
Play as Shiek
Also rumoured, but proven fake. No AR codes make this possible either.
Play as Dark Link
A rumour was invented where you could play as him by meeting certain requirements. However, while playing as him fairly is fake, Jay the Ham, and other hackers have found a code allowing you to play as him using a Gameshark. See here for details:
Play as Dark Link article by Videogamer X
Get the Triforce in Twilight Princess
Oh God, another pretty much recycled rumour, this time replacing Ocarina of Time with Twilight Princess. In the game, this is also impossible... indeed, the Triforce is given very little screen time or importance in the game, and two parts are already with Zelda and Ganondorf.
Get inside Fado's House in Twilight Princess
Also false, since the door never opens. Spread by members on Gamefaqs at one time.
It may however be possible with cheats and hacking.
A new Zelda game called Valley of the Flood
Apart from the implausibility of a game where Link loses in the end, the whole game has kind of being jossed by the existance of Zelda Wii in the future, which doesn't seem to be like said game. The train rumour is funny considering the existance of Spirit Tracks though, and the elements seem to be the centre of one game each, not a single game between them.
There's a Legend of Zelda Movie
A few years back, this trailer from IGN came on the scene. It appeared to be a Legend of Zelda movie, but was it really?
The answer? No it's not. It was all a fake by IGN, an April Fool's Day joke. Very elaborate, but not real. There's no planned real movie in the least. However, there are several fan made projects that are sort of like a movie. You've got one found on the Sacred Ream website:
It's called The Hero of Time, and is a completely seperate thing to the IGN one. It's not official, it's completely fan made, and it's apparently now available in it's entirety on Daily Motion. Like all fan projects, your opinion about the movie will probably be mixed.
There's also a movie project (probably canned) by a guy called Joe Morris, that can be found on Ganon's Tower:
It's an animated idea for a Legend of Zelda film...
And finally, the infamous Joe Cracker saga, about someone who had delusions of making an official Legend of Zelda movie, and people made corny versions of it using his script as a fad.
He had a lot wrong with his ideas. Basing it on the 80s TV show? Bad.
And here's a part of it someone made for a good example of it's legendary so bad it's goodness:
There was also something called the Beacon of Courage, another likely cancelled Zelda fan movie. Joe Cracker called it a rip off of his own, no idea if it was better or worse:
Used to be at this address:
http://www.geocities.com/beaconofcourage/ (Dead, Geocities shut down recently)
Finally, many more fan movies exist. A good sample can be seen by searching Youtube:

Mario Kart Wii Rumours
Shortcut behind Marty's Cage
Since the re release of this track in Mario Kart Wii, a few cruel rumours have been going around that the cage can be entered if you use a lightning bolt or cloud to shrink and slip through the bars, claiming there is a row of boosts afterwards. It also claimed Marty would break out on the final lap if you did this. This in fact is false, since the gaps cannot be gone through, as the game treats the cage like a solid stone wall.
Secret Red Pipe in Wario's Goldmine
Yeah, the infamous and annoying 'shortcut' where you fall into a Koopa Cape like red pipe in Wario's Gold Mine. Again, this is false since there is NO red pipe, and the one nearest the path counts as out of bounds.
Secret Passage in Sherbet Land
A rumour that you can go through a section of wall, end up where the big penguin is and a load of other stuff. This is incorrect, since not only are there no thus disguised shortcuts in the game, but this fake shortcut was never in the Mario Kart 64 version of the track either.
Chain Chomp POW Block Shortcut
And another one, this time that you can supposedly use a POW Block to set free the Mario Circuit Chain Chomp, and he chases opponents and barges through the wall. This is incorrect, and isn't worth even trying. On the other hand, free Chain Chomps were in the first competition/tournament on the Mario Kart Wii Channel.
Secret Passage in DK's Snowboard Cross
Again, someone posted a shortcut where supposedly you'd enter a cave by falling into a snow pile in DK's Snowboard Cross. This is also false.
Super Smash Bros Melee Rumours
Play as Sonic
The most common rumour there is. On the first of April one year, a magazine published that by beating 20 wireframes in cruel melee, you would unlock Sonic the Hedgehog as a playable character. However, this was found to be impossible when people managed the feat, and in the debug menu Sonic was not referenced. The magazine also admitted it was an April Fools Day Joke.
Detstar has articles about why Sonic the Hedgehog and Toad are not playable characters.
You can unlock Toad in Super Smash Bros Melee
This was another rumour, that by hitting all the credits in the mini game you could unlock Toad as a playable character. However, it is not true, as hitting all the credits is not only near impossible, but there is no trace of Toad playable in the game in the debug menu. Also, Detstar proved that the images of him were cut and pasted from real images and the message was altered.
You can unlock a Silver Pidgeon as a playable character
The rumour was you would unlock it after beating 50 wireframes in cruel melee. It was simply a joke though by the Detstar admin after people kept e-mailing about the Sonic rumour.
You can unlock Wario and Wario's Castle
The rumour was that by beating All star on very hard, you would unlock Wario. I did this, and since nothing happened, I can carefully conclude the rumour is fake.
You can unlock Felix!
Since this rumour required you to do something stupid while holding the disc for the game, it is easily a fake.
Pokemon Rumours
Mew in Pokemon
Well, this rumour is probably the most established, so I'll explain a few rumours and while they don't work, plus the one true method.
- Get 150 Pokemon- In Japan, yes, but in other countries, you simply get a certificate for catching them all.
- Go through the game without cut and return to the SS Anne and Move the truck with strength- no, as the truck can simply not be moved with strength. It actually serves no real purpose.
- Trade a Team Rocket Member a Level 100 Nidoking to get the keys to truck and move it that way.- you cannot trade Pokemon with computer controlled trainers, plus you cannot drive any form of vechicle.
- Use a glitch- Actually, this is true, so check the next paragraph. Oh, and it isn't the Missingno glitch either...
To get Mew without Gameshark or Nintendo event
- First, go to Celadon City.
- Now, go to the underground tunnel. When you come out, immediately press start. Select Pokemon and choose to fly somewhere.
- Now, the gambler should have an exclamation mark above his head, but you should fly away before the battle begins. When you arrive, your start menu is frozen. Now, make a trainer come to you. Fight them and win.
- Now, find an opponent who's last Pokemon has a special stat of 15, like the cool trainer with a slowpoke near Cerulean City. Beat them.
- Fly to Lavendar Town, and enter the route with the gambler. Your start menu should appear. Close it to fight a level 7 Mew (or if you fought the wrong pokemon last, some other Pokemon or a trainer.
You can get God Pokemon
Wrong. There are no such things, plus, the strategies, like talking to one person 1000 times, or getting all the Legendary birds, are too ridiculous and fake to be true or possible.
You can fight secret Pokemon in Bills Backyard.
It's impossible. Plus, I went their with a Gameshark and mega jump code, and the game just froze.
Sailing off to Secret Areas on the SS Anne
Like the mysterious truck, more rumours involved the SS Anne. Some I recall include wild fantastic places with weird and wacky Pokemon. One was about something supposedly called 'Si', which was meant to be godly powerful or something (from a friend of a friend, serious!). Towers on the island, high level Pokemon... It's also false, there's nothing there other than what you see.
Evolving a Likitung into Luigi by holding the Game Boy upside down
Sigh... stupid as hell. But at least Nintendo at one point made a fake screenshot of this, which must have fueled a million more ridiculous rumours. Thanks ideed...
Beating the Elite Four eight times gets you Pikablue!
No it doesn't. I beat them way more than that, no special reward. Oh, and Pikablue is actually Marill, a Pokemon from Gold/Silver and later generations.
You can use cut on the parcel to get a Venustoise
Even more rubbish like the Pokegod stuff. No, Oak's parcel has no ultra secret Pokemon in, and you never collect it. There's also no such thing as a whats it's name in the game code, so it doesn't exist.
So there you have it, the best rumour page on the internet. If something appeared in that long list, you can be sure it is fake. Bye for now, join and talk at the DS Ultimate forums!
