Wario Land The Shake Dimension Boss Guide

Wario Land The Shake Dimension Boss Guide

Now, admittedly, before I begin, I will just say that the bosses in this game are no pushover, at least compared to the past 5 Wario Land games (that includes Virtual Boy Wario Land), and that if you are a relatively casual gamer, a few of the last ones will just completely destroy your soul, especially Scumflower/Bloomsday. Never the less, help is here, with a long guide on how to beat each and every one of the bosses in Wario Land The Shake Dimension.

Rollanratl

Rollanratl Battle

Rollanratl

Boss Emblem: Rollanratl Emblem

Boss Description: A large metallic robot which is seemingly holding up the roof of the temple. He has at first a weakness via the lights on the side of his head, then by a switch on top of it, and can detach the lower arms to turn them into move jet propelled blocks.

Walkthrough/Guide

Before he actually starts attacking, first note just how damn awesome the boss music is in this case, and then look out for his head generating steam. Then, when it falls, jump and then shoulder barge the glowing part on the left or right of his head. If you do however get stunned, you can also jump and barge attack this section when it's in the air. After a while, he'll shake the ceiling, so various explosive rockets will start falling. Stand between them to avoid damage, and wait for a blue rocket, which you can jump on and attack him from. Twice.

This will then activate the next phase of the battle, where the side weaknesses on his head will fall and explode, revealing spikes, and two smaller spiked blocks will appear. Dodge his head slamming into the ground a few more times, then ride the smaller blocks up to his head, ground pounding the switch that lies there. Here, you can jump just in time to dodge the forcefield and hit him again for an easy battle, or on the other hand you might be forced to fall to he floor and dodge the various laser beam shots fired downwards by said spiked blocks. If the last one is the case, jump on another block when they start moving again (this time counter clockwise instead of clockwise) and ground pound the switch on top of his head again.

Funnily enough, on defeation you get to watch his head fall and his body get smashed by the falling roof of the temple, which is actually pretty amusing.

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Don't get knocked out by the earthquakes.

Level Setting/Background: Run Down Pyramid

HP: 27 (standard)

Practical HP: 6 (punches/ground pounds needed to empty the health bar).

Hot Roderick

Hot Roderick Race

Hot Roderick

Boss Emblem: Hot Roderick Emblem

Boss Description: A racing car driver in standard gear driving what seems to be a jet powered race car along a desert road. The car can also seemingly end up on really high 'legs' above the wheels, kind of like the Yoshi card transformation. The driver is about the size of Wario and actually ends up being chased down holding a steering wheel after the car explodes.

Walkthrough/Guide

Probably the best boss level in the game this, but never the less, a guide is useful. First of all, a quick control primer... you're riding a unicycle like in some of the other levels, so you have to tilt the remote back to slow down and forward to go forward. 1 however activates a boxing glove in this battle, which is your only attack move.

With that out of the way, Hot Roderick will begin by throwing spanners at Wario's unicycle, so what you need to do is punch them to send them flying back at the engine of Hot Roderick's race car. After three spanner hits, the engine will start flashing red and you can pummel it with the boxing glove attack to cause damage. However, when it stops flashing red, slow down, because the engine will turn back on and if you get caught in the jet flame, it does cause damage.

After a few times of this (usually about two), Hot Roderick's car will go on stilts, rather like the Yoshi car transformation in the Yoshi's Island series. Here, you have to punch the tyres that are thrown back to damage the car, and then you can attack as usual. A quick note is that whenever going for this mission where you hit back every tyre, you do not need to actually hit Hot Roderick with every tyre, just send them back towards him.

With a few stages of that out of the way (one or two in general, unless you're really, really slow at attacking), the car will break apart and you'll see Hot Roderick running off holding a steering wheel. Chase after him (punch the car parts out of the way as the car explodes) and then hit him with the boxing glove to send him flying into the horizon and win the battle.

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Knock back every tyre.

Chortlebot

Chortlebot Challenge

Chortlebot

Boss Description: A robotic clown head with the standard red nose and party hat. Seemingly, he can use his red nose as a pop up boxing glove type thing as well split it into two for a really long firebar like the ones in the Super Mario Bros series. He's also held up by a jet type motor which can shoot fire to the left and right.

Boss Emblem: Chortlebot Emblem

Walkthrough/Guide

Now, before the walkthrough begins, a quick warning. This boss battle in my opinion is probably where the semi difficult boss battles actually start, so be ready for a more difficult battle than the last two. Never the less.

First of all, Chortlebot will be floating around to the left and right of the room. He'll then have his red nose spin, which is the cue to get out of the way from where you are to avoid the spring loaded boxing glove nose attack that gets aimed towards your position. At this stage, hit him three times to make a light appear on top of his head, and attack that (you can hit it twice) before he returns to normal.

Now, each time this happens, you will require one hit more to make the weakness of said boss appear, so the next time you have to hit him four times, next time after that, five, etc.

His next attack is the spinning mini firebar nose type thing, where he slowly moves towards your position while spinning this spiked firebar thing where his nose was. Now, you can attack him early on in this attack, when the firebar is slow, but when it speeds up, my advice is to run since getting hit is nearly inevitable.

He also has another attack, directly after you've attacked him. This is firing spiked mines in all directions, so try to stay between where two of them are fired to dodge the attack. It's generally easy to avoid though, and causes little damage, so don't really worry about it unless going for not taking damage.

Another attack he has is causing a long firebar to extend from his nose and spin clockwise. My advice here is to use the ropes to spin over the top of his head and follow the firebar, hitting Chortlebot as many times as you can in between.

He can also hover higher into the air and makes various rows of fire appear under him, so just stay as high up as possible to dodge them.

Finally, he can do the last two attacks at the same time, so follow the general evasion pattern for the firebar one and you'll hopefully avoid it (definitely avoid being caught on the left side of the boss arena, this makes it nearly impossible to avoid damage).

You'll eventually defeat him, causing the evil robot clown to fall to the ground and explode.

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Damage Chortlebot twice in a row.

Level Setting/Background: Glittertown

Scumflower/Bloomsday

Scumflower Skirmish/Bloomsday Blowout

Scumflower/Bloomsday

Boss Emblem: Scumflower/Bloomsday Emblem

Boss Description: A evil looking flower in a plant pot with a horn on it's head. It can summon various vines to attack from the ground, cause earthquakes and use hurricane type powers to send Wario into the Venus Guy Trap plant in the corner of the room. He gets defeated by being smashed into the water eventually, kind of like Roger the Potted Ghost from Yoshi's Island DS.

Walkthrough Guide

Behold what many people consider the most difficult boss battle in the game! First of all though, pay close attention to the boss intro, it pretty much says how to defeat the boss and how to NOT fly off into a wall when he uses a hurricane attack. But ah well.

First of all though, the boss uses a hurricane attack which sends you to left, so keep moving to the right, and wait for the boss to spit out two Bandieros (small round basic enemies). Throw one at the boss' face, and then punch the pot backwards a few times to cause some damage. Scumflower/Bloomsday will then send a huge floor of vines from the arena floor, so run quickly to the left (or jump them) to dodge them.

Another attack he'll try is throwing a bumbleprod at Wario, so defeat it with a ground punch and ground pound, then dodge the wind based attack. He'll also try and throw scorpion type enemies at you, so stun them and you can throw them at the boss to stun him like with the earlier attack.

Repeat this a few times, and he'll jump, causing an earthquake and making a vine appear in front of him. This will be followed by two scorpion type things being thrown, so stun them and hold them, dodging the next earthquake attack to throw them at the boss and attack as usual. Oh, and ignore the Bandiero throw attack, he sends out the killer vines about a second after.

Repeat this a bit and you'll get to phase 3, where two vines will appear, one in front of the boss and one blocking you from the very left of the arena. Scumflower/Bloomsday will then throw a metal cannon type enemy (A Boomdinero), which you need to stun and shake to turn into a plain old Bandinero. Then, defeat the two Bumbleprods, and dodge the wind attacks to the left and right, and jump to avoid the earthquake attack. Throw the Bandinero at Scumflower/Bloomday like normal and attack like normal.

Repeat this a few times, and humourously, he'll fall backwards off the arena into the water and be defeated.

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Defeat 5 Bumbleprods.

Level Setting/Background: Soggyboy River

Large Fry

Large Fry Cookoff

Large Fry

Boss Description: A french chef duck riding a frying pan that spits out rockets and bombs, can smash down through the floor to cause sacks of enemies to fall from the ceiling and charge across the screen in the frying pan similar to a non stopping train.

Boss Emblem: Large Fry Emblem

Walkthrough/Guide

First of all, after seeing the kind of creepy intro (he eats other enemies whole?), you'll realise his first attack is to smash down into the ground. Jump when he's about to hit the floor to dodge the earthquake, and open the sacks by attacking or shaking them to find Bandineros. Throw one into his open mouth, and then he'll spit out a bomb, so throw that into Large Fry's mouth. He'll then expand and fall to the floor, so keep punching him. This will then start the next part of the battle and his more attacks.

His next attack is a set of rockets. Early on he fires just two of them, which are easy to dodge, but he later fires like six of them. Some good advice here is to stay the hell away from the edges of the screen when this happens as not to get trapped, and jump over/run under the rockets as appropriate.

He also, later on glows green, which means he'll charge into from the side of the screen. So duck to avoid his attacks here. Early on, he'll just charge once, but he'll charge two or three times later.

Later on, the attack pattern stays the same. However, you must now throw two enemies into his mouth for him to spit out a bomb, and the enemies get more powerful as the battle goes on. Roughly, this is the pattern:

  1. Bandineros
  2. Yellow Bandineros
  3. Nosedozers
  4. Recapitators
  5. Shortfuses
  6. Buccaneros

Now, note how they get more dangerous as the battle goes on, and out of that list, all except the Recapitators can be stunned and fed to Large Fry to make a bomb appear. A good tip here is to also make sure the enemies you don't really like are actually underneath the boss, that way, when he falls to be attacked by you, Large Fry crushes the enemies flat, instantly killing anything underneath him.

After a relatively long and relatively difficult battle, you should eventually win and watch Large Fry fall defeated, flying about the arena deflated like a balloon.

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Feed Large Fry two bombs in a row.

Level Setting/Background: Bad Manor

HP: 27 (standard)

Practical HP: Varies:

  1. Bombs only- 5 HP
  2. Bombs and attacks- 24 HP

The Shake King

Shakedown Schooner

The Shake King

Boss Emblem: Shake King Emblem

Boss Description: He's a viking like pirate with a black cape, horned helmet and beard. He's also the basis for all the symbols on the intruder alarms and entrance door in each stage, and about two or three times the size of an average human Mario character. He uses charge attacks, laser beams, lightning bolts, gigantic enemies and fireballs to attack.

Walkthrough/Guide

After a really cool interlude with Wario walking through the darkness to the Shake King himself and all the boss emblems glowing and whatever, the climatic battle finally begins. First of all, The Shake King uses his charge attack, the same one that will be your key to winning this battle. Jump on him as he charges to send him into a wall, which allows you to start shoulder barging him to damage the Shake King. You can then pick him up and throw him at a wall to damage him even further (or shake him to get like 30 000 coins).

He also uses an attack where he sends fireballs you have to dodge under, after he glows red. Ground punch when he does this to cancel out the attack (you can technically cancel out every ground based attack he does with your ground punch).

He'll then prepare to smash the ground. Ground punch to stun him and throw him into a wall. If you don't do this, he'll stun you with an earthquake and then pick you up, shake you about and slam you into a wall.

After a short while, he'll decide to slam through the floor, destroying the room which will start phase 2, in the hold of the ship. Here, he has some new attacks, like throwing GIANT enemies at you (ground punch to cancel this attack) and you have to jump on him twice when he charges to be able to damage him. He'll also jump up and down across the room, causing shockwaves you have to jump over (also, get under him otherwise he'll pick you up, shake you and throw you again when he gets to your position in the boss room). He'll then try to cause that earthquake attack again, so ground punch to stun him and throw him at the wall. After a relatively short period of this pattern of attacks, he will again fall through the floor where a short cut scene begins...

This cut scene has Queen Meralda standing next to the bottomless coin sack, when both Wario and the Shake King fall into the same room. Then, the Shake King gets really angry, and powers up to his ultimate evil form for the really, really final battle (yep, no saving or breaks here).

Now, firstly in this stage, he will send out various orbs at the top of the screen, and lightning bolts will shoot down from them. So here, stand between them to dodge them (you have to move after dodging one round, the next round is further across the arena and there will always be a lightning bolt fired where you were standing to dodge the first one).

After this, he charges again. This time, you need to jump on him THREE times to stun him, and then attack/throw him as normal.

This will then lead to the Shake King using his next few attacks, some rather cool looking and powerful laser beams. Dodge to the other side of the arena to dodge the first one, then the other side to dodge the second attack, and for the third attack, do generally the same but also stand between the laser and the shockwave orbs.

This will then lead to him powering up the fire or enemy attack, so cancel it out again with the ground punch.

He will then take to the sky, and fire the most annoying attack of this battle, the random bouncing electric orbs. So dodge these, and dodge underneath to avoid his slam back to the ground. He'll then try and stun you with another earthquake attack, so ground punch to stun him and throw him at the wall.

After this, he'll then use the lightning attack, but the ELECTRIC ORBS ARE STILL BOUNCING AROUND! Try your best to dodge all the deadly attacks, and he'll then ground pound and do another charge attack (jump on him three times to stun him and throw him again). Repeat the above phases and dodging to finally defeat the Shake King and reach the damn ending!

Missions:

  1. Beat the stage without taking damage.
  2. Defeat the enemy before time runs out.
  3. Complete the stage with at least 60 000 coins.

Level Setting/Background: Shakedown Schooner

HP: 54 (Two Phases)

Practical HP: Varies:

  1. Only Punching: About 240 HP. After about 30 minutes of this, I had still only drained about one fifth of his health bar and was still in phase 1 of the battle.
  2. Normal: 20 HP battle 1, 21 HP battle 2 and 41 HP overall.

Guide Format

  1. Boss Name- The name of the main enemy in the battle.
  2. Level Name- The name of the level said boss is found in.
  3. Boss Emblem- The symbol of the boss.
  4. Boss Description- What the boss is/what they look like.
  5. Walkthrough/Guide- How to defeat the boss.
  6. Missions- List of missions in each boss battle which can be cleared for the music once you've beat the Shake King in the final boss battle.
  7. Level Setting/Background: The boss arena seems to be set in the last level before the boss battle.

Quick Definition and HP Explanation

Now, if you've been reading the above, my mentions of a Boss HP and 'Practical HP' will probably confuse you. But yes, there IS a keen difference, and that is this. The boss HP, normal wise is how much HP is shown on the yellow health bar at the bottom of the screen. You know, shows you how long until the boss dies? Has a small picture of it to the left? Yeah, that one. The Practical HP is how many ATTACKS you need to defeat said boss, in a practical, in game sense.
