Yoshi's Island DS Boss Guide

Stuck on a particular boss? Getting killed every time thanks to the same old thing? Well fear no more, as this guide will tell you how to defeat every boss, stay alive longest, replenish egg supplies and keep your star total at 30 throughout the battle.

Big Burt Brothers

The concept of this battle, however ripped off from the first game it may be is to simply fire five eggs at the two Burt Brothers without getting hit. And to be simple, just go to the far left or right, stand in the indentation and fire eggs from there, ducking when they come close.

Gilbert the Gooiey

Not exactly a difficult fight, as his own attack is to swing from the side to side about 2 feet in the middle of the arena. Still, to stay alive and win, eat or blast all those coloured dots off the boss without getting hit (you should not be getting hit at all against him anyway) and he should fall pretty easy.

Tip: Use Baby DK and blast him with eggs to take out many of the coloured dots in one hit, often being able to win in just two shots.

Hector the Reflector

Probably the first semi annoying fight the game has to offer, you need to be able to hit this ghost with as many eggs as possible until he shrinks away. However, because of his invisibility, this will likely be a pretty annoying game of guesswork unless you realise that the bottom screen is not decoration but a mirror that shows his whereabouts in the arena. So simply just stay around one or two platforms and fire eggs at him while avoiding the possessed tables, chairs and flower pots.

Tip: You know when you are about to win where the mirror has about five holes in it.

Note: If you use the mirror when he attacks, you can see small ghosts moving the flying objects around.

Big Bungee Piranha

A large version of those ceiling living piranha plants, this is a pretty annoying boss to defeat. It's main attack is to dive at the floor, attempting to eat Yoshi, but you can and have to use this to your advantage.

To defeat him, wait until he is about to lunge down, and roll the Chomp Rock (circular boulder in the arena) under his head. He will dive down, hit the boulder and crack his teeth, allowing you to then pelt his tongue with eggs. Repeat twice for a win.

Tip: When his teeth are cracked, stand on the rock for a better aim at his tongue.

Bessie Bass

An extremely annoying boss if you want 100 points, this battle requires a bit of moving around and a good aim.

The room is fully flooded, so stand on the platforms and wait for this giant fish to jump out the water. When it does, then fire an egg in it's mouth to hurt the boss and repeat this twice to defeat it.

Tip: If you want to keep 30 stars, don't stay still when it dives into the air, and practice your aim well!

Priscilla the Peckish

A strange creature that I will certainly say I have never seen before, at least not in a Mario game, this thing seems to be some kind of strange sand creature which eats anything which falls in the pit.

To win here, you need to either wait a long time or to learn to dodge death. The first way is to wait for a shy guy enemy to fall from the sky and pelt it with eggs when the boss lunges up. The more used way however is to become bait, and to jump over the gap and quickly fire an egg at about the same time to hit the boss. Either way, three hits should make you win.

Tip: When trying for 30 stars, use the faster method and also eat the objects it fires, as those can certainly ruin your plan.

Six Face Sal

Probably the weirdest creature ever seen in a Mario game since Cuckoo Condor in Wario Land 4, this thing is basically a wheel with heads on. And the joy is, the heads fire projectiles, and you can move the boss wheel by using the rotating platform.

To defeat this however, you will most likely need to use the rotating platform. Wait until the heads come out, and one will most likely be a lighter colour. Then rotate the wheel so that head is somewhere you can fire at, and fire an egg at it. Repeat about four times to win.

Big Guy The Stilted

For once, there is actually a Shy Guy boss!

However, as you should have realised by the Shy Guys flying out of it's eyes and the fact it was just sitting there deactive before the battle, this is actually a Shy Guy robot, which may or may not make it any cooler.

Still, to defeat this thing, you need plenty of eggs, or Baby Bowser, preferably the latter. You then just keep breathing fire or throwing eggs until he flies off the end of the platform into the lava, and sinks in, then smash down on the things head to damage it. Repeat that twice for victory.

Tip: Play as Baby Bowser and this battle will be over very, very soon.

Note: Do not forget to get off the top of the boss at the end of the battle, otherwise you will just fall into lava and instantly die. Sounds dumb, but some people (me included once) make and will continue to make that mistake.

Moltz The Goonie

Before you start this battle, remember that it is a very good idea to use Baby Princess Peach, as you will require plenty of hovering at this moment.

First, you should have realised now that you are in constant free fall, and there are no platforms, and no floor to break the fall, so watch out!

Also, if you have not noticed somehow the huge goonie falling at an alarming rate, please take the short time to do so, and watch for when the boss falls to the bottom screen. When it does, ground pound down on it's head to smash it badly.

It will then fly into the background, so dodge the Shy Guy rockets that come down very fast (best to do so on the bottom screen) and avoid the boss until it comes down to the bottom again. Ground pound it.

Repeat to defeat this semi annoying boss battle.

Bowser Battle:

Baby Bowser

To defeat Baby Bowser, just fire an egg at him and avoid his ground pounding and fireball attacks. Repeat twice to defeat him and meet...

Bowser

To take down Bowser, wait until a giant egg floats in hanging from some balloons and fire it at his stomach to flip him on his back. Ground pound him to cause damage. Repeat twice for the victory.

Giga Bowser

Now, in the final battle which is obviously a total base off from the original final battle in the original Yoshi's Island, you have to control the four Yoshis as they avoid his attacks and throw giant eggs at Bowser in the distance.

To win this, you must first dodge the fire and boulder based attacks (and also not fall in the pit) and when a few giant eggs float across the level, collect them and fire them at Bowser. Five or six hits should do him in.
